1931 Model A Speedster This is a Model A Ford that had its original body removed and replaced with bare-bonesopen car equipment. The power train was also modified. The aluminum high compressionhead boosts horsepower from 40 to 42, and a racing cam has been installed. The sparkadvance is automatic. The three- speed transmission is fully synchromesh, no grindingbetween gears- not even first! The current owner had the awkward throttle button(basically gas/no gas for racing) replaced with a smooth-action gas pedal and throttlelinkage for more civilized driving. On the dashboard can be seen the holes from an on/offswitch for a fuel pump. The pump was difficult to use in normal driving, and tended toflood the carburetor (gas puddles on the ground), so it was removed, and the gas line wasreconfigured for normal street driving with gravity-feed. Also for comfort, the currentowner had the foot-action starter switch extended up through the dashboard, where itcould be activated by hand. The owner has had this car up to 45 mph (clocked by a pacecar} and estimated that he was at about half throttle, with low RPM. He had no interest ingoing any faster, but would appreciate hearing from the next (braver) owner how muchmore he pushed it. It has seat belts; you’ll need them! The electrical system is six volt,and the headlights, single tail/stoplight all function. The brakes have been upgraded tohydraulic.
