Vehicle Detail
1997 Ford 7.3-Liter E-Super Duty 8-Cylinder Diesel (Econoline) converted municipal city bus. 353,821 miles. Standard deal, it runs, I would take a trip in it anywhere in the US tomorrow but it is used, private seller to private buyer -as is- cash deal. Owner's manual in 3 ring binder. We purchased this bus on E-Bay and have since used it on vacations, including one from Central Wisconsin to New Orleans and back. This thing is RELIABLE. Questions *ask*, through ebay or dick@killerbotics.com (or both!). This is a used vehicle, it runs and starts. It has a big engine Air Conditioning unit that doesn't work and another really massive one under the side that also doesn't work. I never looked into fixing them. It has an extra large alternator for powering all the accessories. It has florescent light along the inside and some work, they need bulbs or ballasts. Enough work that I never cared to look into why they all don't operate. They have individual switches and a driver override. The glow plugs are worn out. You have to shoot a squirt of ether in it's snoot to get it to fire, it has always been that way for the 6 years I have had it. This thing STARTS no problem doing this. Summer or winter. I planned to put in a remote ether shot system, like on big rigs, but never got around to it. It isn't hard to open the hood. Once running and warm it starts just fine. For example you can drive to get dinner and come back and just start it. This is just when it is stone cold, room temperature, that it needs it. Cruise Control WORKS! This I fixed when I got it! Who wants to drive to New Orleans from Wisconsin without Cruise Control! Or wherever you may want to go. I would take this on a trip anywhere in the US tomorrow, this thing runs and runs All pictures can be clicked on to see a really high resolution version. If e-bay doesn't allow a link all the pictures can be found here: http://pics.killerbotics.com/ebay/bus.html or HERE No battery under the hood. There are two batteries under the side. The system is a 12volt system but it has two batteries as well as a much larger than normal alternator to power the on-board accessories. Holding the hood open wide for a better picture. The hood hold up thingy does work and is seen in the picture above. The tire pictures, above, show the front tires and the read that is left. That is a rolled up 20 held up to the top of the tread and then inserted into the tread, so you can see what tread is left. Battery compartment, this is a slide out, it is bolted in place but the last time I looked at the batteries the slides do work. I replaced these batteries after I purchased the bus and they are good. The control unit as well as a 2nd sign are included and do work. I never tried to program the sign to different things but it must be possible. The sign has two stored sayings. One is "out of service" and the other is some route name. Driver's door doesn't have a key. I never had one for it. This door operates electrically from the driver's seat. Lift pictures, and MOV movie of lift operating. I used this to lift crates and other items we used for trips but it works fine as originally intended, as a wheel chair lift. VIDEO IS 163megs, Sorry about that! You can also hear the 7.3-Liter 8-Cylinder Diesel (Econoline) engine idling. Covering futon couch/bed (black cushion not included, standard cheap futon size). Black bench bus seats folded up for room. There are two: one forward facing behind driver and one rearward facing behind lift. We decided to partially carpet the floor so forward storage would be greater. There are T slots on the wall and on the floor for screwing in eye bolts. Two cupboards with draws make the sides of the couch/bed. They have hold shut "child safe" deals to keep them from flinging open. Little black box under shelf is a heater that runs off the engine coolant, this works well! The unit over the rear window is only a fan that operates from the driver's seat. Top escape hatch as well as cooling vent, pops up fully or at front / back angles and is also an emergency exit. 4 of the side windows are emergency exits but we use them when camping as windows, we have these stainless pols with rubber ends we use to hold 2 open (included). Kids dig this thing, when you pull the cord, no the bus doesn't come screeching to a halt like in a Bugs Bunny cartoon... But this light comes on and goes off. This thing is some sort of RPM gauge, looks to work, has one line that doesn't light up still can read it fine. Instrument panel, odometer is accurate. Big red thing is a fire suppression system, I have to assume the tank isn't charged but I never pulled the pin and hit the button to find out! The big tank is behind the driver's seat. This is the control for the signs, there is one on the front and another one that mounts in the side. I have the side one off but it is only held in with 4 bolts and is very easy to put back in. I always planned on finding out how to change the sign but never did. This is the tow receiver hitch I installed, it was OVERKILL for what I needed but I figured if you have a 7.3-Liter 8-Cylinder Diesel Bus you should have a TRAILER HITCH to go along with it!
