Classed as mid-size SUVs, these cars actually serve a different market. Blending cars, SUVs and minivans, the Sports Tourer Class is for families who want to commute, camp in the woods and carry cargo and kids. For that it must be versatile with comfort of a sedan, the all-wheel drive, clearance and load-leveling suspension of an SUV and the passenger capacity of a minivan. The Pacifica has all that and this year offers more, with a second engine choice and three trim levels. Available Models The 2005 Chrysler Pacifica is offered in three trim levels this year, Base, Touring and Limited. Interior Features The four-door Chrysler Pacifica can hold six passengers on three rows of seats. With easy step-across entry and exit the second and third row seats fold flat for extra cargo space when needed. The new Pacifica's design has family comfort and convenience written all over it. Standards abound, with plenty to suit buyers, even at the Base level which has cruise, A/C, Infinity Audio, power everything and premium items like heated power mirrors. It doesn't feel like a Base model because of these premium additions. However, move to the Limited, the top-level and enjoy a power liftgate, an auxiliary fan for rear seat passengers and dual zone automatic temperature control and leather upholstery on a 10-way driver's seat with a memory system (driver seat, mirrors, pedals). A navigation system, in-dash 6-disc/DVD changer and many other style and comfort enhancements are included in the options list. Exterior Features The 2005 Chrysler Pacifica has a wagon-style exterior form that employs SUV and minivan cues. It is built in the same plant as Chrysler and Dodge minivans, but it uses its own new, unique platform. Rear privacy glass and roof rails are standard. A roof rack, low-slung performance suspension and 19-inch chrome alloy wheels are added at the Limited trim level. Performance This year Chrysler has installed a second engine choice on the Pacifica. For people looking for a lower price, the Base has a standard 215 hp V6 with 245 lb-ft of torque. The engine powering the 2004 Pacifica Touring and Limited models is the same as last year's, a 3.5-liter V6 model that is capable of 250 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque at 3950 rpm. Not surprisingly, as a more powerful engine, this high-powered motor gets slightly poorer mileage than the Base model engine, at 17/22 mpg instead of 18/25 (city/hwy). The Pacifica is available with either front-wheel drive with traction control or all-wheel drive-something that clearly emphasizes its SUV inspiration. Note that all SUVs have the 3.5-Liter V6 engine. Both engines are mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Load-leveling rear suspension and independent front suspension help maintain a stable, flat ride over bumpy surfaces. For drivers, the Pacifica is equipped with power adjustable pedals and an integrated, in-instrument cluster navigation system. Safety and Security The 2005 Chrysler Pacifica has an impressive safety portfolio, three-row side curtain airbags are standard on the Limited and available as extras for the other two trim levels, while dual front airbags, a driver-side knee airbag, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, rear-obstacle protection and a tire-pressure monitor are standard on all models.
