LuckyKat32 Store JUNE CARTER & JOHNNY CASH'S OWN PERSONAL 1965 CADILLAC!!!!! VIN # N5167131 ODOMETER READING..... 112243 CLEAR TITLE ***I am selling this vehicle for a friend, all questions will be forwarded to him & I will get back to you asap. If you are a SERIOUS BUYER, then please email me your regular email address and/or phone number & I will have him contact you directly.*** I am proud and pleased to offer this rare piece of Cadillac, Rock & Roll, Country, and June Carter and Johnny Cash History!!!!! This is June Carter’s Personal 1965 Cadillac Calais. She bought it Brand New (after Johnny wrecked her 1964 Cadillac!) and she and Johnny, as well as other touring members, drove this to Gigs. It was also used by June and Johnny for everyday use until just after their marriage in 1968. This Vehicle is fully documented and even includes the rare Cadillac dealers issued "Protect-o-plate" in her name !! THE HISTORY This Cadillac was purchased by June Carter on April 7, 1965. This was to replace her 1964 Cadillac that Johnny wrecked in Nashville on Mar 25, 1965. During Johnny’s very troubled time with drug use, this episode is very well documented on pg. 110 in the 2004 book " The Man Called Cash" by, Steve Turner. It states that two days after completing the album "Ballads of the True West" (Mar 25,1965) Johnny smashed June’s 1964 Cadillac into a utility pole on South Street in Nashville, causing $2,000 dollars worth of damage. Police arrived at the scene and he was treated at Vanderbilt Hospital for minor injuries. Because the Damage was so excessive she decided to buy the Cadillac you are now able to bid on. The year 1965 was an incredible time in both June and Johnny’s lives. June, and the Carter Sisters had joined Johnny’s group in 1961 and were well entrenched in his musical tour. June was entrenched in trying to save Johnny in 1965. Their love affair was in it’s beginnings and June spent many a time washing and pressing his clothes while also trying to find his pills. Their love at this time is inspiring and a thing of legend. 1965 was indeed an eventful year for Johnny, and not for the better. This was the year he: -Drove his tractor into the Lake -Wrecked June’s 1964 Cadillac -Stalled his camper and started a 508 acre fire in Los Padres National Forrest -Was busted for illegal drugs, smuggled from Juarez Mexico. Was arrested and spent Jail time -Was banished from the Grand Ole Opry for smashing out the stage lights in a fit of rage -Lost his friend, Johnny Western’s, Cadillac during a drug haze. The car was later found abandoned. -So many more episodes of love and desperation between the two happened during the ownership of this car. This car was sold by June in September 1968, shortly after their marriage. So, this car was in their possession during the peak years of their careers… during the great duets like "Jackson" , Johnny’s controversial incident in Nickajack Cave, and their wedding, and so many more episodes in life. Because of their friends and their fellow touring members this car has been host to so many famous people. It can certainly be imagined that this car has seen the likes of All the Carter Sisters, Mother Maybelle, Carl Perkins, and so many others. I heard from the previous owner that ELVIS SAT IN THIS CAR in 1965. I did a web search and found this to be true as a website mentioned this episode and stated that Elvis and June were visiting and Elvis sat in the Passenger seat, liked it , and exclaimed he was going to buy one too. I do not know if this website is still up. I found this when I purchased this car 4 years ago. June and Johnny’s lives were linked with Cadillacs. They both Bought them, Drove them, Toured with them and Sang about them. One of Johnny’s great songs is "One Piece at a Time", where he mentions the year 1965 for the Cadillac, at the end. June has so many fond memories of Cadillacs that can be found in her writings and recollections. In her 1979 book, Among my Klediments, June fondly reflects, "……..Nashville saw many a car- Lincoln or Cadillac- roll out headed in all directions over the United States, loaded with guitars, banjos, bass fiddles tied on top, feet and arms and legs stowed wherever they’d fit. And we were among them- The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle. " This 1965 is no exception and has seen a lot of miles on tour. June logged over 35,000 miles on this car before she sold it in September of 1968. This Car’s historical importance can never be understated. I do not consider it just a Car...It is more like a Time Capsule. Not just June And Johnny’s connection to this car is important, but the fact that June is a part of the Carter Family … The First Family of Country Music; And they toured in this Car!!!! This is the oldest known vehicle or Cadillac known to belong to either June or Johnny!! Imagine all of their precious instruments that were on the backseat or in the trunk, during all the touring!!! The Car was sold in Sept of 1968. Then was purchased in the 1990’s and spent time in Kentucky till I purchased it in 2004. I shipped it from the Tennessee/ Kentucky in October of 2004. I have owned and cared for this car ever since. This Car still has the low mileage of 112,243!!! June and Johnny put a large portion of the mileage themselves on this from 1965 to 1968. THE CAR This is a 1965 Cadillac Calais 4 door hardtop sedan. The car itself is rare as there were only 13,975 produced. It features the stock 429 V-8 rated at 340 horsepower and weighs in at 4,500 pounds. It features two factory seatbelts for the front seat and also features Air conditioning, power windows, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power brakes, fender skirts, and AM Radio. THE CONDITION The car is in excellent condition. It runs and drives wonderfully and the motor is very quiet. Sometimes I dont even know its running, its so quiet. All of the glass is in good condition with no cracks. All the chrome is in good condition, but has some pitting that is common from the Tennessee region. The body is in good condition. It has been painted back to the original Cadillac "Alpine Turquoise" color. I get tons of compliments on how beautiful the color is. There is no external rust and the rocker panels are in excellent shape. The motor compartment has been kept original with all original factory decals and plaques. All gauges work: Speedometer, Temperature, Fuel. The clock sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. The electric windows need work and I have not had the time to fix them, but the Original Radio is featured and still Works!!!!!!!!! Imagine June and Johnny tuning in and listening to this very radio...Singing along with and maybe even listening to their own songs! Probably needs new speakers. Air conditioning needs work too.. Might just need to be recharged? Left turn signal works but right does not. I will check the bulb in the next few days. Car features new tires and also a new muffler. The mileage is at 112,243. This is the original mileage. June and Johnny put on just over 35,000 miles from 1965-1968 and the rest of the miles were put on till today’s date. Car was stored many years in the 1990’s. The interior is incredibly original and in good shape. All door panels are decent and the chrome /trim is excellent. Headliner is good. The carpet is still in good condition and even the foot pedals and the carpet around the pedals is in great shape. The rubber foot rest pad, sewn to the carpet, is still in excellent condition too. These are mostly worn out in cars of this vintage. So this condition is amazing!!! The steering wheel is cracked , as is common on these old Caddy’s, But June and Johnny’s hands were on there and that is the most important thing of all. The vinyl dash is cracked and the front seat has rips from age and use. But it is complete and can be restored. I never felt the need to replace or restore these items because I am a purist and wanted this Car to be as original to the way June and Johnny drove it. There have been a couple of accidents, as the driver side rear bumper has a slight dent in it on the bottom, but this is barely noticeable and was actually done by Johnny. All of the owners ,including myself ,have decided to keep the way Johnny dented it. What a rare time capsule of Johnny’s misfortune!!! The rear seat is in excellent condition, with only minimal tears. The trunk latch is broken and needs to be replaced. This is something very easy to locate on Ebay. I never felt the need to replace it because I could still drive it as it is. The title is current and is registered in California THE VALUE This car is extremely rare and incredibly valuable. It is a great investment. Its value, as it sets, is at least $30,000 and Up. In 2003 The only other known vehicle of June’s was her 1987 Rolls Royce and it sold for Around $60,000. The 87 Rolls was worth about $30,000. So the fact that June owned it added around $30,000 dollars to it. And she is not remembered in any way with Rolls Royce. In 2006 a Cadillac Collector in Canada purchased Johnny’s 1975 Cadillac Fleetwood for over $25,000, after all auction fees were paid. This did have documentation. Also in 2006, Johnny’s 1976 Cadillac was up for sale. I offered $20,000 for it and the owners price wasn’t met. I believe he wanted around $40,000 dollars for it!! And it was a rotted out , rusty , cancer ridden and non running vehicle!!! There was little in the way of paperwork, although I knew it was Johnny’s Cadillac. Folks, This Cadillac is worth more than any of the aforementioned vehicles. It is well documented and is the oldest known Vehicle and/or Cadillac from either June or Johnny Cash. 10 years before the earliest known vehicle. The previous mentioned vehicles are from the later part of their careers. This is the only vehicle from the peak and prime of their careers, when their love was being formed and the hits were being made. Just think of the songs and hits that were being created in their heads while they were driving this car. This is the time that June let her hair grow from short to long and when Johnny still had his short and greased back hair. Before he wrote "The Man in Black". This Car is a piece of History. It is a Museum on wheels!! THE AUTHENTICITY There is no question of this Car’s Authenticity. The rarest of the Rare. Even more rare than a title in the name of the original owner is the Dealer Issued "Protect-o-plate". The Cadillac Dealer "Protect-o-plate" and her Dealer "Owner Protection Plan" service manual is included. This is a metal plate that is attached to the rear of the service manual. It is typed out at the time of the purchase and included vin number, Name, Date, and Address. Photo of metal plate is included here and reads, in part: MRS. JUNE CARTER NIX DUE WEST AVE NASHVILLE TENN. N5167131 04-07-65 Also the original "fill out form" in the back has been hand filled out in blue ball point pen. It was filled out in the wrong place and scratched out , then filled out in the proper place. It has June’s name, address, Date, dealer code number, and signature of the dealer salesman. This is pictured as well. This service booklet was kept by June in the Glove Compartment. Her Owners Manual is included; and a page is pictured featuring the dashboard. There is also a copy of paperwork from Kentucky, dated 2-3-1993 that states "Museum Car Previously owned by June Carter Cash." The reason June’s last name is "Nix" is because she was not officially divorced from her previous husband, Rip Nix, although she was separated and touring with Johnny. EXTRA GOODIES.. AUTOGRAPHS!!!! Included in this incredible auction are original autographs from June Carter and Johnny Cash. First is an 8x10 original fan club photo signed by both June and Johnny. Johnny used felt tip , and June used ball point. This is not one of those recent bogus signed photos...it is a decades old photo signed personally by June and Johnny and obtained personally by the Fan Club President Virginia Stohler in the 1970’s or 1980’s. Also included is a near mint copy of "The Best of The Carter Family". This is from the year June bought the Cadillac in 1965!! And this is wonderfully signed by June: " Love, June Carter" and she has drawn a little heart under it!!!! This is another genuine autograph and signed in permanent felt tip marker.
