Vehicle Detail

1970 Challenger SE - Real MOPAR Big Block restoration candidate.. (NO RESERVE AUCTION!) JH29L0E123395 J = Dodge Challenger H = High 29 = 2 Door Sports Hardtop L = 383 290HP 1-2BBL 8 CYL 0 = 1970 E = Los Angeles, CA, USA 123395 = 23394th Vehicle This Challenger SE appears to have begun life as 1 of only 79 built with light gold metallic exterior paint. It's a black interior, 383 2v auto/console, power steering, non-rallydash, bucket seat car with 489 case posi rear. Add the fact that this SE has NO A/C & only manual BIG drum brakes? Making it most likely "very unusual", specifically for an SE to not have at least A/C, much less no power brakes. This is extremely unique considering the SE option was such a high end upgrade. We have checked the vin with the core support and they DO match. Unfortunately at this time we have misplaced the fender tag therefore we are currently unable to decode it's full options. But this car does fall in line with how other non-air cars look. Maybe a Mopar guru out there knows more? Would love some input if your out there.. Sadly, the previous owner forfeited the original 383 engine to a local machine shop several years before we acquired this car. We tried to track it down but had been sold. Car frame, main body and floors have been media blasted and while there is surface rust on some of the panels in pictures from it sitting. It is simply JUST surface rust, except where otherwise noted in this listing. Also some minor body work had been performed. But it is ready to move forward with further body work and panel replacement. As these pictures show, frame rails, torsion boxes, k-frame, etc. are all very solid. Lower quarters, center trunk pan as well as front driver side floor definitely should be replaced. Front and rear inner fender wells and rocker panels are in good shape. Interior: The standard gauge cluster is all there but gauges condition is unknown. We have the back seat but the front buckets are missing. Console is in great condition including the ash tray and door and while nice looking, the center piece is custom made from wood and not original. Door panels are there but at very least need re-carpeted. Original dash pad while not in horrible shape needs either replacing or at least capped. The ever important plastic "rear window" SE specific plastic interior trim piece is cracked in center on one side and broke on other but probably can be repaired and re-used. Not sure how available this piece is? Currently been unable to find another one. The A-pillar moldings, kick panels and all misc dash trim and switches/knobs are in good shape. The overhead console indicator system is complete and the original cardboard headliner shell while needing repair or replacement is included providing at very least a great template. Interior door and window handles also with car and usable. Exterior: As mentioned above, The car definitely needs both lower quarter panels, center trunk and at least drivers front floor repair/replacement. The rear floor sections are very solid. The front fenders and the doors as well as the rocker panels are in solid and really good shape too. While it was a vinyl top car. The roof is overall cleaner than many seen previously. The Magnum hood has some surface rust underneath and and area with bodo on front passenger side but definitely overall appears to be repairable. The hood does have it's inserts also in good shape. Trunk deck lid is in great shape as well. Most all of the exterior molding and trim including vinyl top molding/trim is with the car. Some in great shape and some should probably be repaired or replaced. Front and rear window trim is in decent shape, especially the hard to find rear window trim. we also have all the glass "except" for the front windshield. Chassis/Frame/Undercarriage: Previously mentioned. The cars k-frame, frame rails and structure is very solid. This car has been a southwestern car most portions of it's life. It is also "Big Drum" brake equipped with front swaybar. Drivetrain: Car currently has no engine or transmission but will come with the correct driveshaft and transmission crossmember, etc.. If your looking for a drivetrain let us know as we have several options/combinations available for extra of course.
