Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 71 vega hatchback I recently rescued from the estate of the original owner where it had sat in a garage since 1979! I wish I could describe it as a real cream puff , but it has not lived a totally pampered life. The original engine blew up in 79 and it was parked and used as a storage bin. It was full of 70's newspapers. It has a pretty decent dent in the right quarter panel , but the body guy I had look at it said most of it would pop out once provoked and the rest would repair fairly easily (4 hour estimate to fix to first prime stage). The front right took a light tap and would need a pull on a frame rack (or some creative backyard rigging) to get it to be right again. You could also just replace the fender and header panel and it would be fine , (no structural damage) ,This is why the hood sits crooked. I was just thinking of keeping all the original sheet metal on the car. It has absolutely NO RUST anywhere as you would expect from an original Arizona car. The carpet is trashed. The front seat is ripped. The rest of the interior would probably clean up pretty nice once all the desert silty dirt was scrubbed off. The original seat belts are mint! The dash pad has no cracks or distortion at all. The door windows roll up and down like new. The car has all factory tinted glass as it is a factory A/C car with all parts still intact. I was told that in 71, only the A/C cars had a 2 barrell carb and the Opel 4 speed transmission. I did not care so much about that as I had the intention of making it a V-8 car. The car has 4 brand new tires on it (original ones dry rotted and would not hold air) and the original rims were replaced with GT style rims. I started to gather parts for the V8 conversion and they come with the car. I bought a used , no damage Milodon oil pan , a used set of Hooker headers , (one tube has been beat on) and a set of used Don Hardy motor / trans mounts. I also bought a very nice original front grille and a nice set of used tail light lenses. Also included is a set of takeoff S-10 spindles that are complete. This is the cool way to covert to 5 lug in the front. The adaptors are sold on V8 monza.com. I do not have the keys for the car. I have found a guy here on E-bay that sells a complete lock kit for everything , including doors , trunk and ignition for 50 bucks. I have a clean , clear , notorized Arizona title for it ,still in the original owners daughters name. Im in this car 1500.00 bucks cash money so far , and I just want to break even at this point , so that is what the reserve is. I will not sell it for less. If it does not sell , I will just move forward with my plans for it. I just found another car that interests me more....thats the only reason Im selling it. If it sells , the buyer is to arrange transport. I am in no rush to sell it and in can hang out here for a while after the sale if need be. Paypal payment preferred. Payment due within 5 days of auction end. Thanks for looking. On Jul-08-11 at 09:39:54 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer the few questions I have received :(1) Yes I do have the lower rear valance panel , but it is plastic and it cracked in half right in the middle. It is repairable if a replacement cant be found..........:(2) Yes the front spindles and brakes are complete and still assembled in one piece the way they were removed from the S-10. (3) PEOPLE WHO HAVE BID HAVE OBVIOUSLY NOT READ THROUGH THE DESCRIPTION , THE RESERVE IS CLEARLY STATED!!! Thanks for the questions. On Jul-08-11 at 14:01:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Yes it is the original paint. I have done nothing but washed it off. I have only cleaned the papers out of the interior.....otherwise no attempts have been made to clean it. I had planned on re-doing the whole interior in black and was just going to dye the panels as they are in very good shape. It will need seat covers for sure though....and the drivers armrest pad is torn. Thanks for the interest. On Jul-10-11 at 10:33:45 PDT, seller added the following information: The headers are 1 7/8" tube with a 3" collector. Yes the oil pan is made specifically for the Vega , and both the headers and the oil pan came out of another V8 Vega.. Thanks for the questions.
