Vehicle Detail

1970 FORD TORINO GT 429 / AT CONVERTIBLE ONLY 125 MADE: AN ACTUAL “1 of 1” CAR BLACK / TURIN RED LOADED WITH OPTIONS & ACTUAL LOW MILES This 1970 Torino GT 429/AT Convertible is the only one like it in the world. .……There were only 125 of this model ever built. Only 6 black convertibles were produced. Only 2 were built in the Black & Red combination. This is the one and only GT 429 Torino ever made like this with all the muscle car options, and is the only known survivor in this color... let alone those still surviving few from the original group of only 125 built. This is also the best color combination ever produced in this series. There will never be another opportunity to get a car like this! This Torino GT Convertible is Well Documented: There are 2 Marti Reports plus a door tag, a General Marti Report plus Deluxe Marti Report. This 429 GT is loaded with almost all options available. ALSO INCLUDED IS THE ORIGINAL Ford Factory & Dealer Sales Invoice from when the car was sold in 1970. The car has 89,600 original & documented miles and is in mostly original condition. It's had few upgrades, an older repaint along with recent OEM Ford licensed new set of comfort weave seat covers & carpeting professwionally installed and a new red top boot. Original condition, solid & well kept low mileage survivors are getting very hard to find, let alone such a rare model. The original Ford Motor Company Sales Invoice shows the following information for options on this loaded out 429 GT:STANDARD “GT” OPTIONED EQUIPMENT: · POWER TOP/GLASS BACKLITE · COLOR-KEYED RACING MIRRORS · HOOD SCOOP · TRIM RINGS/BRIGHT HUB CAPS · COURTESY LIGHTS · COLOR-KEYED NYLON CARPETING · FOAM PADDED SEATS · GT IDENTIFICATION · BELTED TIRES BLACK / A/ EXTRA COST OPTIONS: Ø 429 CID 4V 8 CYLINDER ENGINE Ø HIGH BACK BUCKET SEATS Ø WHITE CONVERTIBLE TOP Ø SELECT-SHIFT CRUISE-O-MATIC Ø /5/ G70X14 WIDE OVAL BLTD BSW TIRES/RAISED WHITE LETTERS Ø RIM BLOW-DELUXE STEERING WHEEL Ø CONSOLE Ø POWER STEERING Ø POWER FRONT DISC BRAKES Ø AM RADIO Ø HIDEAWAY HEADLAMPS Ø ARGENT STEEL WHEELS Total dealer cost to buyer was approximately $3,500.00, including $775.00 in added options, making this a very expensive car in its day. …probably the best option notation is that this car was dealer ordered & built without the side laser side stripe which would fully detract from the classic muscle car look, done in black with the deep red interior .…I also have all the COMPLETE SET of original 1970 Ford service books & sets of original advertising for the car which will be included with the sale with the other documentations. ORIGINAL Invoice copy can be emailed for review, please do contact me to see or for questions. I have now owned this Torino 429-GT for several years; purchased 2008. I am only the 3rd owner of the car. This car was last licensed and tabbed in 1993. Prior to my ownership it was last driven in 1992. It was truly a “Barn Find” when it was purchased in about 2005 by a long term aqaintance of the original owners family. The 2nd owner was doing a slow restoration, replacement, of a few items to get the car back on the road. He was forced to sell due to business & family needs. He had replaced the convertible top with a new top and he had added aftermarket chrome wheels & tires. He had also put an older Holley on the car; which has since been replaced along with the wheels & tires. The hideaway headlamp set had been replaced by a standard front grill, but was provided with the car in a box. I have since replaced the hideaway grill back to the original; but have not yet completed hooking up the vacuum canister, which is still with the car. The original headlight vacuum switch is in the dash. The full power convertible top works great too! WHEELS/TIRES: I was provided with the original set of Argent Steel Wheels, and hub caps/trim rings, with very old original tires still on them. The Argent Wheels look like they were used very little and are in amazing condition. Even the hubcaps have some of the original Ford paper stickers still on the back side of them. I ordered a full set of new Raised White Letter Firestone tires from Coker; which reproduce old stock from the original molds. The new set of tires have less than a few hundred miles on them; OEM style & size as optioned when new. INTERIOR: I purchased the car with the original coverings on the seats being dry & worn with age. After searching for a year, I was finally able to find & order new OEM style high bucket seat covers in the original Comfort Weave Turin Red. I had a professional interior shop put in new paddings and install the buckets & rear seat cover set. I also added new factory OEM cut nylon carpets in the proper matching factory color. ( I have saved the original seat covers & carpet if desired ) The rest of the interior is pretty much left as found & original. There is some typical cracking in the dash pad, but I do have a new black dash cover which is included. The original door panels are extremely nice condition along with most else in impressive original conditions. I have recently added the new OEM Turin Red convertible top boot to match the interior. The factory AM Radio is also mint condition and plays loud & clear. ENGINE/Mechanical: When I got the car it had vintage street performance additions, such as the carburator, old headers & 70’s vintage ladder rails. I have just replaced the entire exhaust system, front to back with OEM style exhaust system & actual OEM 429 exhaust manifolds (powder coated). New H pipe, free flow design exhaust with Flow-Master Mufflers ...really sounds deep and great; a muscle car & impressive big block sound. I have left the vintage ladder rails on the car. I have had the brakes all redone, the front power disc brakes do work great & cars stops easily . I had a professional mechanic shop do everything I could think of when I first got car to make it a fun and dependable driver. I had the Ford Autolite carburetor redone, professionally set up. I had the front of the engine done with a new roller assembly timing chain, new water pump, new starter /solenoid, new 710 cranking amps long life battery. I had valve cover gaskets installed under the excellent original condition valve covers. I have had the belts & hoses replaced and a new OEM style Copper Radiator installed. I had a complete antifreeze flush & change, oil change & factory style component tune up with new wires/cap/condenser/points/plugs. The car starts right up and runs great. For those interested in numbers the mechanic wrote down that the engine, heads were DOVE-A and original factory intake manifold also marked DOVE-A. I have no prior mechanical or history for rest of engine & if was ever fully rebuilt. Engine runs extemely strong, idles nice, accelerates smooth, burns clean and is a very strong and is an impressive sounding muscle car... ...you know it is a big block that means business when you pull up next to it! There is a metal tag on the engine by the front end coil (you can see in photo) that shows: 70 429, 9 F (Ford Emblem) K-813-A (I looked online and I believe this means an early 429 engine built/cast in 1969 for the 1970 model) I do have the mint condition GT “429” fender tags …which need to be reinstalled on lower front fenders. The car has original style 2-line red pin strips down both sides. “INVEST IN A CLASSIC” A RARE & VINTAGE MUSCLE CAR: This Big Block 429 Ford is at the top end of muscle car power & performance, one of the top rated & fastest muscle cars ever produced, coming from the 1970 peak year of the muscle car performance era. The Ford “Thunderjet” 429 has been actual rated at over an amazing 500 lbs. of torque, factory specs rated car lower and at only 360 horse for insurance purposes... but these were actually estimated to have over 425 horse of stock power! If you wanted a 429 THUNDERJET CONVERTIBLE... Torino GT 429/AT Convertible &True Muscle Car, this was it. Only 125 of this model actually made; with estimates of typically less than 30% to 40% survivors remaining. Most other built had just a few options added.
