Vehicle Detail
In 1988 Porsche introduced the 944 Turbo S, a limited production model based on the Turbo Cup race car. The ‘S’ model was equipped with many significant performance enhancing features. These included: the addition of a new turbocharger, a KKK 26/8, with modified turbine vanes, larger exhaust valves, modified fuel maps, and redesigned ignition curves which increased the engine output to 247 hp and 258 lb/ft of torque. The cooling system was upgraded to match the new engine requirements. The M030 suspension upgrades included Koni coilover shocks with adjustable rebound and ride height adjusting collars, stiffer springs and hardened bushings. Thicker torsion bars were added as were Turbo S specific front and rear sway bars. The differential, axle shafts, clutch and transmission were also enhanced to match the increase in power. These upgrades included an external transmission oil cooler, hardened 1st and 2nd gears and a limited slip differential with 40% lockup. The huge, 4 piston ABS brakes were sourced from the 928 S4 and the wheels were forged, 7 spoke Club Sport units, 7X16 inch fronts and 9X16 inch rears. The 944 Turbo S performance was astounding. Road & Track magazine proclaimed it to be one of the five fastest production cars in the world. The factory claimed 5.5 second zero to sixty times and high-thirteen second quarter mile times that eclipsed the century mark. Accelerations from 60 mph to 80 mph were completed in an amazing 2.6 seconds. The car was capable of 60 mph to zero “panic stops” in 133 feet and generated .89 g’s on the 100 foot skid pad. The near perfect weight distribution of 51/49 helped make this one of the best handling cars Road & Track magazine ever tested. For 1989 all 944 Turbos were built to the ‘S’ specification. For sale is my 1989 944 Turbo S, a Guards Red sunroof coupe. It is a two owner car, and I have owned it since 1993. The car has 59,3XX miles on it and the 60,000 mile service, including the timing belt, was completed in March 2011. This car has been meticulously maintained and the service history on the car is completely documented from new. The car has several tasteful performance enhancements which include: a B&B stainless steel exhaust, an Autothority Stage II chipset (approx. 310 hp), a K&N air filter and a Lindsey Racing Boost Enhancer. The car is fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires and high performance brake pads. All original parts will be included in the sale. The car is in excellent condition having always been garaged and covered and adult driven. It has no significant scratches and no dings. The front fascia has minor “road rash” that is not visible from more than a few feet away, but otherwise the glossy Guards Red paint looks new. The interior is also in excellent condition with no signs of wear, a perfect dashboard and beautiful, black leather seats. A Blaupunkt CD player has been added while retaining the stock Blaupunkt power amp/equalizer unit. The air conditioner blows ice cold. I will sell this car to the highest bidder, with no reserve. It will be sold “as is”, with no warranty expressed or implied. Winning bidder must submit a $1,000.00 deposit by PayPal or certified check within 3 days of auction close and the balance paid within 10 days. For questions please call (706) 372-8960 or email me at fgeor6@aol.com. Thank you for looking at my car, George.
