Vehicle Detail
I'm moving in a couple weeks and I've decided to sell my BMW F650 ST. This is a great bike, very clean, and I'm sad to see it go. It has only 17,470 miles, nearly all of which I personally rode (I bought it in basically new condition with 1000 miles). It has been garage kept for its entire life, minus the time on the road. This bike has an incredible history - I've toured with it extensively, and have ridden it in 13 different countries. I want to make sure it goes to a good owner. I've recently given it a lot of routine maintenance. It has new oil, filter, coolant, clean and lubed chain, and a new battery. It's all ready to go for this year's riding season. The tires are in very good shape as well. The bike also includes a full touring configuration: 3 Givi hardcases (I spent over $1000 here), heated grips, touring handbars, GPS mount, electrical accessory port, optional windshield, custom Sargent seat, and a throttle lock (super nice for 500+ mile days) (I spent another $1000 on these accessories as well). I'm throwing in a couple extras as well: riding jacket and pants, large chain&lock, and a trickle charger. If someone purchases Buy-It-Now within the week, I'll throw in my Shoei helmet and A-Star gloves as well. This bike is the ideal way to get into touring for a great price. It has plenty of power for the highway - but is not too large to make simple riding around the city a breeze. The cases easily detach for a streamlined look as well. The seat has been lowered for extra comfort. If you're very tall, you might consider raising it. The bike has a few scratches on one side from being down twice (both while stopped) - but as you can see the overall paint is in very good condition for its year. The engine does not have any mechanical problems, although the 2nd oil drain bolt on the bottom is starting to get stripped and needs to be replaced at its next oil service. I noticed a drip or two right after the oil service last week, but after a quick wipe, I've seen nothing since. Also, when I first bought the bike over six years ago, I noticed a few drips of coolant if I left it parked outside on a cold/chilly night during a long ride. I showed it to the BMW mechanic and he wasn't concerned. I keep the bike in a heated garage though, and haven't seen the issue in years. As for noises, the chain can sometimes rattle/vibrate during a quick acceleration and it sounds a bit weird when it happens. I also showed this to the mechanic and he said it's primarily because of the design, but he also made a slight adjustment to the chain distance which helped the situation. I've been adjusting every other season, and this resolved most of the noise. Occasionally, when the Givi bags are attached, I can hear a vibration of the luggage rack during an acceleration. It usually only lasts a couple seconds, but I figured I'd mention it. As for brakes, both front and back work fine, although the rear pad is low. It should be replaced on the next service. The front is a little better, but should also be done at the end of this season, or sooner if you're going to be riding a lot. The only other 'issue' is the ignition key. Oddly, about 3 years ago, a small piece of the ignition key broke off in the bottom of the lock. After consulting my mechanic and locksmith, they both recommended leaving it in there as replacing the ignition and re-keying everything was a several hundred dollar repair. Functionally, everything works fine - it still locks and I now carry two keys: the slightly shorter one for ignition, and my spare for the gas tank and seat. No one thought spending $300-$400 to get a new key/ignition was worth it.
