Vehicle Detail
Time to build another car. This car is street legal. I have posted four short videos on photobucket at http://s499.photobucket.com/albums/rr356/bartolli_24/1968%20Camaro/ to see video, copy this link and paste to your browser. One shows a cold startup the others taken going down the road. Notice the one video taking it up in third gear speedometer is at 80 and I backed off. Car was still pulling and one gear to go. This Car is Nasty. I bought this 1968 Camaro as a rolling chassis, no drive train, no interior, because it is not a SS or RS I built something different. I started out making a Penske Trans Am clone. As I got near the end of the build, I decided to paint it red instead, using Limco ( BASF ) single stage urethane paint. The color is Dr. Pepper trademark red that’s where #23 comes from. Some pictures show Pepper racing on the front fender it is now Chevrolet racing. Complete frame off restoration. Underside has been painted with black epoxy. Lettering is vinyl and can be removed. The motor has no power adders, very strong running car. Car has 700 miles on it since finished. Over a year ago I retired to Ga. and went to eight shows and won six trophies from best of show, best modified, best hot rod, best Chevrolet, best 60s car, and top 15. The car is very detailed as the pictures show. Almost every nut and bolt is stainless steel. This car turns heads wherever I go. Motor: 350ci .030 over - 4 bolt main. Standard crank, Keith Black flat top piston w/valve relieves with chevy pink rods. Comp Cam Thumper Series # 12-246-3 Adv. Dur. IN-274 EX-286 Dur@.05 IN-230 EX-236 Lift IN. & EX. 490 Lobe Sep. 110.0, flat tappet hyd cam using Comp Cam Pro-Mag Lifters, Mellings H.P. oil pump. 202 Double hump cast iron heads with 1.5” Comp Cam springs, 1.5 ratio Comp roller rockers, screw in studs, push rod guides, Manley stainless steel valves CC and flowed tested. I finally used these heads after sitting on shelf over 30 years. These heads are old school and were done by Truppi Kling in N.J. Hooker Super Competition Headers wrapped in insulation going into Dynamax mufflers exiting into custom made side pipes. Edlebrock double roller timing chain with Mr. Gasket quick change cam cover. Summit SFI Harmonic Balancer. Howard Stewart Racing Water Pump with custom made aluminum radiator, two push electric fans, one pull electric fan (SPAL) system holds 3-1/2 gal. Edelbrock Performer ESP intake manifold with 750 Holley vacuum secondary carb. Holley 80 gpm manuel fuel pump with regulator and pressure gauge. K & N air filter. Jaz CircleTrack Pro Sport Steel Fuel Cell 22 gal. with liner and foam filled, custom built cage. All fittings from cell to carb are AN with braded stainless lines, rear fuel filter with shutoff. MSD 6 HVC PN 6600 Ignition system with HVC coil, MSD 8.5mm wires with HEI distributor, also have a complete extra mechanical distributor system included. DriveTrain: Lakewood SFI blow proof bell housing. 11” Center Force II clutch, disc, throw out bearing, needle pilot bearing, new steel flywheel. Borg Warner Super T-10, rebuilt works perfect (three groves on input shaft - close ratio) four speed with Hurst Super Comp. Shifter. Custom made drive shaft. Rear-end is from a 1971 Z-28 Camaro. This is a 10 bolt 8.5 posi rear 3.73 Motive gears, all new. Some people don’t know the 8.5 rear has the same size internals as a 12 bolt, this thing is bolt proof. The spring saddles have been moved and rewelded to fit this car. Brand new 4 leaf springs and mounts in rear. New front coil springs, Edelbrock ISA Shocks, Suspension Techniques front and rear sway bars, Aero Racing rims 15” X 8” on all four wheels with Hoosier Pro Street Radials 28 x 9.50r15LT, front bottom inner lip of left wheel opening has been shaved for tire turning clearance. Brakes: 1969 Nova brand new front disc brakes, single caliper, rear brakes are stock drum with all new parts. New master cylinder with Right Stuff proportioning valve, all new brakes lines. The Rest: Competition Engineering 10 Point Roller Bar with swing out sides. Engine roll cage, top bar bolts in. Remove two bolts and two radiator bolts and engine lifts right out. Front sub- frame completely rebuilt all mounts have 1/8”steel plate welded on for extra support. All welding was done using a TIG. All welds are perfect. All a-frame bushings and joints are new. Wheel wells are not on but are included. New tinted front windshield. Bucket seats are out of an 80’s Corvette not sure of the year. Used Simpson’s safety belts, one 5 point, one 6 point, both outdated. All inside panels and roof panels’ 1/16” aluminum. Custom built dash with Auto Meter Phantom gauges, speedometer, tach, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, volt, and vacuum. Power steering with Grant GT wheel. New Optimum Red Top battery mounted in the trunk in a Moroso battery box. New heater core and heater controls set under dash, no radio or air conditioning. New front carpeting only, no rear seat, has 1/8” aluminum bulkhead where back seat went. The body work and paint looks on a scale of 1 to 10 it’s a 9.5. Looks even better in person than in the pictures. Note book with all receipts and parts technical sheets. I have a clean title for this car.
