1988 MERCEDES 560 SEL - RUNS AND DRIVES BUT NEEDS WORK DONE. I bought this car a few weeks ago and intended to restore the car to good working condition. Plans have changed due to having to relocate and finances. I purchased the car from a guy who drove the car from Philadelphia to Lawrenceville Ga without a problem; just added a quart of oil and filled the tank (twice) After inspection by a mechanic this is what he noted about the car. Engine - Starts and runs ok. Pulls strongly in all gears. 1. It smokes when it has been idling for a while. 2. When warm, it idles high - about 1500 rpm . I am told it needs an idle control valve 3. Valve covers leaking oil 4. Does not overheat 5. Needs new belts soon Transmission Shifts Ok. Needs a new transmission hose, leaking some fluid. Brakes Needs new breaks. Suspension Front suspension seems to be good. Runs smooth and straight. Rear suspension needs to be replaced. Exterior 1.Paint needs a professional buff and wax to restore the shine. 2.The passenger side front door has a rust spot and a long scratch. 3.There are other age related scratches on the car. 4.The hood is a bit faded in 1 or 2 spots. 5. Front drivers side headlamp is broken 6. Sunroof does not open, but motor does work. NO LEAKS. Interior Decent. Needs work. I have not attempted to detail the car at all. I gave the interior a quick clean. 1. The Gear selector console trim is broken and should be replaced. 2. Radio is missing. 3. Leather seats are in decent shape. No cracks or tears. A touch up with leather dye will bring them back to standard. 4. Drivers side front and rear window regulators do not work 6. The AC works ok, does have a small leak. I have tried to disclose all I know about the car. There may be other things that I have not noticed or have not manifested yet. This is a 23 year old car. This car would be an ideal buy for a) Mercedes Benz specialist who can take the time to restore it with little or no labor costs b) Someone who is quite handy with auto repairs c) Parts IMPORTANT NOTES THE CAR IS PARKED IN DECATUR AND CAN BE INSPECTED ANY DAY AFTER 5PM. I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU LOOK AT IT BEFORE YOU BID. THIS CAR IS BEING SOLD AS IS WITH NO WARRANTY AND REFUNDS. I DISCLOSED ALL I KNOW ABOUT THE CAR AFTER IT WAS INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC. I NEVER REGISTERED THE VEHICLE ONLY CHANGED THE TITLE, THEY IF YOU PLAN TO DRIVE IT HOME BRING YOUR OWN TEMPORARY TAG. THE ONE ON THE CAR IS EXPIRED. GOOD LUCK.....
