Vehicle Detail

Selling a 2005 Volkswagen Passat TDI Sedan. The color is a nice deep blue metalic color, really beautiful with a grey leather and wood interior. It has 89800 miles. Reason for selling: My wife just got a new SUV and we no longer need the Passat Well serviced (I don't have any records however) with factory suggested mileage service performed. Interior and exterior in excellent condition. Engine runs great. No check engine lights or other issues. Mechanically the engine is perfect and the transmission is smooth. Leather heated seats. Premium mansoon sound with steering wheel controls. Moonroof. AC blows cold. Never been in an accident. New items:Summer tires on 16 inch alloy OEM rims. Less than 4000 miles on them. They all match and look brand new.Winter tires on 15 inch aftermarket alloy rims. Less than 4000 miles on them. Also look brand new.New air and cabin filters at 80k milesNew fuel filter at 80kNew battery just before winterNew rear brakes (rotors and pads) with a brake fluid flush last yearThis car is ready to drive. About TDIs: they get extremely good fuel economy. 40+ mpg on the highway. You can drive over 600miles on one tank. The engines last much longer than a gas engine, its not uncommon for a TDI to hit 300K miles with proper maintenance. They have extremely high torque at 2000rpms. This means they are a little slower from a complete stop (although the turbo helps), but at speed going up a hill they blow other cars away, they have more torque at lower rpm than most v6 engines. This car really is a pleasure to drive. TDIs are a bit noisier and vibrate more than a gas engine. The passat has a good level of insulation but at idle in a garage you will hear and feel the engine. On the road driving it will be like any other car. If you want a silent car don't get a TDI. Diesel does take some getting used to, however almost all gas station have diesel, especially on the highways. In the winter I used powerservice fuel aditive to ensure the fuel doesn't gel. VW sent a letter to all owners extending the warranty on the car through 2011 (no mileage restriction) for cold start issues so if you did have a problem if would be covered (I had one day this past winter where I needed a jump to start but it was just the battery needed replacement). Otherwise the car starts right up in the sub zero weather, you just have to let the glow plugs heat for 10 seconds). The TDI is very popular in Canada so cold weather should not be a concern. Also this car has heated seats which is a big help in the winter. The body on this car is in great condition. It sparkles. The interior is clean and the leather is in very good condition (I use separate leather cleaner and conditioner regularly and recommend you do the same.) There is starting to show some wear on the driver seats, but it still looks great, just not brand new (I'm sure its in better condition than most 6 year old leather interiors) I have sold a couple of my car on ebay and find its best to list every singe known item with the car so I apologize if this is a long list (don't be discouraged, most listing have similar things wrong that the seller is trying to hide). I just don't want there to be any surprises. All items in the list should be in the pictures, if you want a close up picture of something let me know:1. The wheels, there is a 1 inch grind of curbage on the left front and right rear on the OEM alloy wheels. The other 2 wheels are perfect. This is just cosmetic and not very noticeable. The winter wheels also have some very minor curb rash on two of the wheels.2. There is a scratch on the roof (just through the clear coat) it goes from the sun roof to the front window3. There is some surface scratching on the back where I had a bike rack on for a trip we took to Maine. One point is through to metal and should be repaired with touchup paint. 4. The right front plastic bumper cover is popped out of the clip at one point (see the picture). I never noticed this until I was taking photos for this sale. Its really not noticeable, there is no paint or any signs of accident. My wife says it was like that when we got the car. 5. The rear bumper has a couple of very light scratches. The car was almost always kept in our covered garage so no signs of the abuse a car takes when parked on the street.6. The rear seat had a cigarette lighter. I removed it and glued the trim back in place. I threw away the part. Looks stock, but if you want to light up a smoke I guess you will have to get the lighter from the front seat (the car has never been smoked in and never had any pets in it)7. There is a red display that shows the gear and the odometer reading. When its 90+ degrees outside the top couple of lines fade on the display. I tried to get it repaired but found out that this is a "feature" of the Passat. Almost all Passats develop the same issue. Its just cosmetic and goes away after the AC is on for a while. You can replace the instrument panel to fix it but it will just come back in a couple of years. The panel is still readable and it unnafected except on days when it goes over 90. This does not affect the function of the car in any way and is not serious.8. There is a plastic belly pan on the bottom of the car that eventually gets ripped off on most Passats. Mine was no exception. I replaced it last year with a new one and all new clips. The plastic is meant to keep dirt up into the engine. Many passat owners just remove it. When I first lost mine some of the plastic bits under the car came loose. Again its just a cosmetic issue (and under the car) but wanted to point it out. Its better than most as it has the full pan on it and all the connectors.9. There is some peeling of the vinyl on the center console. I called vw parts and it would be $70 to replace. Its just cosmetic, see the picture. You could either ignore it, replace the part, or peel off the rest of the vynl (which is want I did to the point where I felt it looked ok and I didn't notice it anymore)10. The driver door handle wood is discolored. Cosmetic. see picture. NJ state inspection is good through October. Things to be careful about when comparing this TDI to others:This is a GLS, with leather seats and the wood trim. The GL (cheaper) version only has vinyl seats (a giveaway is the wood trim on the dash and the cheapo pleather seats have perforation in them)Beware of TDIs that haven't properly had their oil changed. These cars are diesel and require very specific oil! Conventional jiffy lube oil will destroy the engine. Even Mobile 1 Syntec with destroy the engine. If it wasn't changed at a good dealer or by an owner who knows what theya re doing the engine won't last nearly as long. This car has had the good stuff in her properly spec-ed VW deisle engine oil.Watch out for passats that only come with one key. You get 4 keys with this one including 2 remote fobs. If you have to get a new key programmed only the dealer can do it and it costs literally hundreds of dollars. Please ask questions. If you want to take a test drive the car is in Hoboken NJ.
