Vehicle Detail

This auction is for my 1985 Toyota BJ73 turbodiesel Land Cruiser. I bought this BJ73 in New South Wales, Australia and imported it to here in the states. It’s an awesome off-road rig, runs very strong, really turns heads (right-hand drive!), and is ready for a new owner who will love it as much as I do, just in time for summer! This is a no reserve auction —the final winning bidder takes it home. I’ve used this rig for both off-road use and daily driving. It’s 100% street legal and would make a great presentation daily driver with just a weekend or two of relatively minor cosmetic work. These things are minor and I've outlined them in the details below. Please note that I always to my best to very accurately describe everything I sell on eBay and I’ve included as many photos as I can. Please be sure to ask any questions before bidding, and I’ll get back to you quickly. You're also welcome to come see and drive the truck if you're in the Tacoma, Washington area. See my feedback and bid with confidence! The VIN number is BJ730000497. The engine is a 3.4L 3B Turbo Diesel that has TONS of torque, and it gets much better fuel economy than a similar gas engine. The turbo makes a huge difference and I’ve added a boost gauge so you can see it in action and monitor the boost. The engine starts right up, very easily, even in our colder northwest weather. The truck has a total of 257,620 miles, not bad for a diesel from 1985, and the motor was reconditioned in Australia at 300,000km (= about 186,411 miles), which is the typical mileage for this procedure in Australia. Parts are easy to find. It starts right up and runs very strong and has a huge life ahead of it. It’s mated to the classic, highly sought after H55F 5-speed transmission, which has the compound low first gear for awesome crawling. Every gear works fine with no issues at all, and the clutch is buttery smooth. The power train is very strong, reliable, and ready for street or aggressive off road wheeling! It really moves and will climb a tree. Literally. The transfer case and 4WD all work great without any issues - the truck is a beast off road or on pavement. It has an Aussie 3” lift from EFS Suspension installed by Bob and crew at AllSet. Under the truck are 33” Goodyear/Savero muddies. The front bumper is solid steel bar for better approach angle, same for rear. The interior is good (there is a small tear on driver’s seat), and the rear seats are good too (see photos). Also comes with an ARB front bumper (if you want it). This comes in handy if you're in an area with lots of kangaroos and wallabies, or if you just like to tailgate small cars on the freeway. The rear stereo speakers are long gone and just holes remain where they were. It’s ready for you to install your own custom sound system, and with the removable top and fold-down windshield, a great sound system would be just the ticket for some great Summer cruising! In the interest of full disclosure, there is some minor rust in the rear quarters under the lights that I’ve tried to photograph carefully (see pics), and a bit on the interior of the rear door at the edge of the window. It’s not horrible and you can repair if needed, but the areas with spot rust are mostly cosmetic and I never cleaned it up. Various patches of rust are visible on the bonnet and around windshield frame - again, see photos (and the quarter shown in the pic, so you can see the size). The frame and tub are fine and completely structurally sound. No rot. The body panels are straight and in good shape – I’ve done some work on them and right side is in primer. There are spots on the body that aren’t perfect, ditto for the paint, but if you’re handy with bodywork it should all be an easy fix, or just let it go if you're going to use this mainly for offroad use. The headliner is in perfect condition. There has been no smoking in this vehicle. If you’re going to use this truck as your primary car to take the family to church on Sundays, you might want to clean it up a bit further and finish it with a nice paint job. I’ve used it mainly for attending my own church – the church of mud. The wiring to the rear tail lights needs some work, the harness rubbed against a body panel and cut some of the wires. Only one of the rear lights is working properly, but splice them back together and you’re good to go. The front lights work fine. The fuel gauge doesn’t work and it needs a new sender unit, but it's an easy fix. Again, nothing is serious and a weekend in the garage and some quick body work and you’ll have a very sharp and unique diesel BJ73! I don’t know of any other issues, and I’ve tried to list all the items that should be of a concern. I don't want to make this sound like a huge fixer-upper project because it isn't - I'm carefully listing all the known issues to make sure you know exactly what you're getting. Again, see the photos below. Finally, this BJ73 has original roll bar setup, and of course the removable FRP top is the best for warm weather! Go topless like the FJ40! The windshield is on hinges and drops down. As mentioned, it drives very strong, has power steering, front disc brakes, A/C (with a fresh belt but needs a recharge), and seats five. This has the Australian -spec full floater rear axle, which is much more durable and strong than the US-spec semi-floaters. The title is 100% clear, there are no liens, parking tickets or anything, and if you're in California, it does not have to be smogged! (If you have any concerns about registering a diesel in California, you can call the California DMV Special Processing Unit at 916-657-8035). She’s a brilliant truck and ready today for reliable wheeling and daily driving. I know you’ll have a blast driving this rig this summer! Please ask if you have any questions before bidding and I’ll do my best to quickly and accurately describe them. AUCTION TERMS: I can help arrange transportation to a shipping company in the Tacoma, WA area if needed. You’re welcome to come see and test-drive it if you’re in the area. Sold as-is with no stated or implied warranty. Title is clear, and full ownership will be transferred upon receipt of payment. Payment must be made by cash or cashier’s check promptly (cashier’s check must clear before you take the truck). No shipments or payments to/from Nigeria or anything else shady.
