History: BMW launched the E39 body series in late 1996. The previous E34 was replaced but there was not an M5 available yet in the new body. In 1997 BMW launched the 540I and offered this as an ultra competitive M-Sport model until the M5 would later be available. Of the many years that the 540i was made, many sources quote the 98 car as the quickest with a 0-60 time of 5.8 seconds. This is the ultimate hot rod luxury sedan!! I am the second owner for the last 120k miles. I purchased the car in Michigan and moved to Las Vegas. I recently have returned to Michigan where the car is now. Most of the service work was done by BMW in Las Vegas or a Ferrari repair shop. This is my personal car, and I was meticulous about service and upkeep. The car recently has had all new OEM shocks installed, new water pump, oil pressure hoses, 4 wheel alignment, bushings and control arms replaced. I have detailed records of all work done to the car. The wheels were refinished recently as well in a gun metal metallic finish. This car is in great condition. The interior is clean, and only the driver seat shows a little wear, but far less than expected for similar cars. I am selling it to make room for a family vehicle that we now need as another child is on the way. On May-26-11 at 09:28:22 PDT, seller added the following information: I see on the listing the vehicle history shows an accident. The details of this are as follows. Stopped at a red light, and a guy tapped the side of the rear bumper. They repainted the scuffs and scratches. I believe that they did not replace the bumper at all. So the damage was light. I think under $1000 total. Insurance paid all costs....
