Vehicle Detail

For sale is a 1981 Honda CB 900 Custom. This is a unique factory motorcycle where Honda combined features from several of their bikes into the CB 900 Custom. It has a 10 speed transmission, 5 main gears and a high/low transfer case with shaft drive. The engine is a powerful putting out 95 horsepower making this a powerful around town or long distance bike and great for two up riding. It has factory air shocks on both the front and rear and allows you to adjust the height to the rider. I am 5' 10" 180 lbs and it fits me well. More details can be found at this site: http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/Honda/honda_cb900c%2082.htm I purchased this bike a couple of weeks ago for $1400, replaced the battery, replaced the plugs, did a thorough cleaning and repaired a sticking brake caliper so after taxes I have more than about $1650 in it so that is my starting price. I planned to keep polishing the engine but after seeing other CB 900 Customs on eBay and the high price that these bikes are going for, I thought it would be good to get this bike on the auction now. This bike is exceptional clean and runs very well. I am not aware of any issues with this bike except the side kick stand needs replaced and I will continue to search for one but I can't promise that I will find one. The center stand is fine. It starts immediately and does not smoke at all. Once warmed up, it accelerates smoothly and idles smooth and even. The exhaust pipe are in very good condition with no dings but a little surface rust on the bottom. They are stock and have a deep rumble when running. The bike has a cool look with the four exhaust tips. The tires are excellent and appear to be pretty new. I have inspected everything and everything works--lights,indicator lights, turn signals, headlight, tach, speedometer, air shocks etc. The seat has a small rip on the left side but the foam is all in one piece and not torn. There are several companies that sale replacement covers ranging from $50-75 or their are companies that will do the replacement. The seat base is plastic so there is no rust to deal with and it should be easy to replace. Also new seats are available from Corbin and others. The original owner was a gentleman that purchased this bike from his uncle and he was the original purchaser. It has been in their family since new. The owner is elderly now and hasn't been able to ride the bike because of diabetes so he offered this on Craiglist. I believe the mileage is accurate and the bike appears in the condition that represents 14600 miles. I would caution sellers on eBay that offer very low mileage bikes and with pictures that are low resolution where you can't see the details of things like rust on the headers. The only significant rust on my bike is on the headers from the middle two cylinders and where all pipes go underneath the bike. This rust is typical for a bike this age and miles and is hard to detect because of the location. There is some very minor rust pitting elsewhere but honestly had to detect. The front fender has a uniform amount of pitting not is not deep or obvious. As you can see the bike is clean, not hacked on and all original. The bike has always been stored in the garage. Also included in the purchase is a detachable windshield from National Cycle. Mount hardware is already installed on the motorcycle. I am selling this bike because I have a total of four bikes and I try to have at least one project bike to wrench on and try to make a little money on. If you have any questions please email me. I can also take more high resolution pictures if you want to see something specific. Thanks for looking. I have owned a lot of bikes and this is a great bike for zipping around town and on the highway. It is a smooth running bike with virtually no vibration. On the highway I shifted through the 5 speeds then engaged the High on the transfer case. Effectively this is an overdrive or 6th speed. The air suspension is cool too and allowed me to adjust the ride height and firmness of the shocks to my liking. On May-22-11 at 18:49:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Update 22 May I have this motorcycle listed for sale on eBay ONLY and I will sell through the auction process.
