1979 VOLVO 242 TWO DOOR SEDAN FOUR SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION Overview: This is Valerie. She is a sweet little two-door sedan and has been my daily driver for the last year. She just passed Colorado’s emission testing with better numbers than cars less than five years old. HC ppm – Idle: 23 ppm 2500rpm: 18 ppm CO% - Idle: 0% 2500rpm: 0.01% CO2% - Idle: 8.6% 2500rpm: 12.9% I am the second owner and have spent the last year upgrading numerous items to improve her efficiency and comfort. Black Leather interior from a 1989 240GL VDO Tachometer New ball joints New hoses New spark plugs and plug wires Fresh coil New catalytic converter Turbo model anti-sway bars Bilstein HD shocks and struts I really do not want to part with her, but I need to raise some money for my 242GT project. She gets 25 miles per gallon around the city and about 28 on the open road. She has some rust visible which I have documented in the pictures, but all-in-all she is a very solid car. Only the driver’s seat folds forward to allow entry into the back seat as the passenger seat frame is from a four-door sedan. I can include the original passenger seat frame if the buyer would like to move the leather and foam over to that frame. I will try to add some more pictures later in the week. The back seat looks better than the front seats. She has the hard rubber foot trays for floor mats. I usually have a black dashmat covering the front dash, but removed it for the pictures. The dash does have one six-inch crack just to the right of the speedometer cluster. The tires are okay, but probably only have another 10K safe miles in them. I checked the compression a couple of weeks ago and it measured: 140, 145, 135, 140 psi. She should have her tie rods replaced in the next year, but everything in the car works, even the rear demist (all lines) and the front windshield sprayer.
