Vehicle Detail
It's with a heavy heart that I'm offering to the highest bidder, my 1940 Plymouth Coupe that has occupied a spot in my garage since 1973! A "barn find" from Pennsylvania, this old classic was trailered to my Fathers auto repair shop in 1972. My dad replaced the engine with a new "rebuilt", flathead six that has less than 1,500 miles on it since '73. He went over the car and replaced many things that needed it and I have his original receipts for the parts. The body has some bondo (especially the trunk), but the paint job has held up beautifully over the past 37 years! The interior was restored in '73 and still looks great! The headliner needs to be tightened up over the back seat. The car is 6-volt but we installed a 12-volt in the trunk to assist the starter. The 6 volt battery is brand new. The car has a brand new 6V electric fuel pump. I put new "Coker" wide white walls on a few years ago and there's a set of 1940 Ford skirts on the rears. The car needs a muffler and the exhaust manifold has a crack in it but I am including a spare one that is in really nice shape. The chrome on the bumpers is flaking in spots but the Stainless steel trim is perfect! Is this a professional restoration.. no! Is this car perfect.. no! Is this a nice car to drive around town and watch heads turn.. Yes! The pre WWII cars were driven hard so there aren't many left and the classic body style of this coupe is rare! Note: This is an old car and like anything old it requires maintenance. I've done my best over the years to keep the car in shape but I would recomend changing fluids, plugs, etc. My wife and I drove this car in our wedding in 1983 and every Memorial Day Parade since! Times what they are, it's time to let someone else take care of & enjoy this classic piece of automotive history. Check my photos, ask me questions and with luck, You could be driving this classic in your towns' next parade! If you know vintage cars, you know that this '40 Coupe is worth much more than the starting bid and rather than waste everyone's time with a reserve price, I'm selling her with no reserve so if you want this car you only need to be the highest bidder! Please read my descriptions and the Q & A from interested buyers before bidding. If you have questions about anything, please ask me! I do not want to be accused of misrepresenting the condition of my car! Arrangements can be made to view the car but time is limited so request early! Payment of 10% expected within 5 days and balance due in 10 or when you pick the car up (whichever is first) in a far south suburb of Chicago. Thanks for looking and PLEASE bid Responsibly!!!
