Vehicle Detail

This is a 1973 Javelin that I picked up as a project a few weeks ago. It was a daily driver for the previous owner, but it had been sitting idle for a while when I purchased it. I’d love to keep it, but I’m transferring out of state in a few weeks so it has got to go this week! The reserve is set ridiculously low - less than $2,000. The parts alone are worth 3x more than the reserve. The best part about this car is the drivetrain. Starting at the back, you’ll find a complete Pro Street/drag style rear suspension. The rear end is a Ford 9” with Moser 31 spline axles, Richmond 4.10 gears, Detroit Locker, and 11” drum brakes. I took the rear apart to verify these parts and their condition; all are in very good shape. The rear suspension consists of Koni coil-over shocks and ladder bars. It would cost you about $4,000 to replicate this rear suspension. The frame is strengthened by a roll cage (6 point, I think) and weld-in subframe connectors. The engine is a built AMC 360 with a Holley carb, Edelbrock dual plane Performer intake, a hydraulic cam, pump gas friendly compression, and headers. The prior owner took it to the track and it ran 12’s in the quarter mile, which is respectable, and sufficient to dust 99% of the late model muscle on the street these days. That’s the good news. The bad news is that it’s currently not running. It cranks over fine and it’s getting fuel, so it’s got to be an ignition problem. I’ve been so busy with my other projects and getting ready to move that I haven’t had much time to spend diagnosing it. I expect that it will be a simple fix, but I can’t promise that I’ll have it running before the auction ends. The transmission is a 727 automatic with a shift kit installed. It also has an aftermarket converter; likely a 10” but I have not been able to verify this. The 727 is the heavier duty automatic transmission; 904’s were the lighter duty version. It has manual brakes (drums all around) and power steering. The car originally had A/C, but most of the underhood components are gone. The stock gas tank has been removed; it has a fuel cell in the trunk. The car does have fiberglass front fenders; I haven’t priced these, but I’m sure they are not cheap. It does have some rust here and there, but it's all fixable. The worst spot is the passenger floorboard, which will need a patch. The windshield frame area will need some attention. Aftermarket sheetmetal is available for these cars if you decide to go that route. The wiring on the car is not in great shape, but I’m including a complete wiring harness from a 72 Javelin that I recently parted out. The interior will need some TLC before it looks presentable. Not all of the interior panels are installed, but I do have these. I may be missing one or two. The front seats are in lousy shape and will need to be recovered or replaced (I also have a set of good shell back buckets from another car that I would sell to the new owner). The front grille is not currently installed, but the correct 73-74 grille comes with the car. This would be an EASY drag car project (plenty of AMC’s running 10’s with iron headed 360’s) or put it back on the street with some elbow grease and not a lot of money! Clear title. I do have a trailer, so delivery is possible for a reasonable fee. Contact me to coordinate. TERMS: This vehicle is being sold as is, where is, with no warranty. Please do not bid on this auction unless you are serious about owning this vehicle. Please be thorough with your pre-purchase questions and/or inspections. If you want to speak with me directly, please email me for my phone number. I have done my best to represent this vehicle as accurately as possible. $200 due within 48 hours of auction end. Remaining balance due within 7 days of auction end. Car must be picked up by May 22; no exceptions, as I am moving out of state. Thank you and good luck!On May-05-11 at 04:01:37 PDT, seller added the following information: One edit on the title - it is one digit off (I think it's the 3d digit or so; have to check). It's obviously a typo, and not terribly uncommon, but wanted to mention it so there are no surprises. On May-07-11 at 05:56:56 PDT, seller added the following information: Several folks have inquired about delivery. I stated in the original ad above that "delivery is possible for a reasonable fee." I should have stated that "LOCAL delivery is possible for a reasonable fee." I am real short on time, so just don't have the ability to make a long road trip to deliver the car. I could deliver in Northern Virginia, Washington D.C., Southern Maryland, and possibly West Virginia, assuming we could come to an agreement on delivery date and fee. Obviously, the car would have to be paid for in full before I load it onto a trailer to deliver.
