Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1954 Studebaker Champion Starlight coupe. This is the award winning design from the Raymond Loewy studios. This basid body was used by Studebaker for years and was the basis for the Hawks until 1964. I am reluctantly selling this car after owning it for 17 years. I need the garage space and do not want the car to remain unfinished any longer. I have not allowed it so sit outside. It will make an excellent restoration project, and much preparation and parts chasing has been done. When I bought the car it was in good running condition but had a broken brake line. I did brake work, replacing brake lines and wheel cylinders and turning drums. I removed and painted the gas tank, and was surprised to find it very clean inside. Overall, the car was basically solid with rust in the usual palces. Some floor and trunk work was needed and was done. Some body work was done, and more will be needed. I have the correct saffron creme (light yellow) paint and have painted the door jambs. I have also sandblasted the wheels, painted them, and mounted the wide whitewalls. The grille and other cast parts were stripped by the chrome shop and returned to me for preparation before plating. They are not broken and will replate well. The bumpers and guards will also need rechroming. The glass is good. I have the original purchase order showing the car was ordered on March 9, 1954 and assembled on March 16. It is a model 15G C3 and was shipped to Boise, Idaho. It has the Champion 6 cylinder with a manual 3 speed and overdrive. It also has the climatizer, turn signals, and radio. The original color was and is saffron creme with a black top, but I bought white for the top. I also bought new pleated vinyl upholstery for the seats from Historic Interiors. They have matching material to complete the interior. This is similar to the optional interior offered in 1954. Over the years, I have located and bought many new, NOS, and used parts for this car, and all go with it. New parts include wheel covers, headlight bezels, taillight assembly, lenses, horn button, chrome script for side and grille, side emblems, door handles, and rear bumper/license guard. There are also other items such as mechanical parts, headlights, ignition parts, etc. Used parts include deluxe stainless moldings for both exterior and interior, deluxe steering wheel and horn ring, radio, and trunk handle. I have an original owners manual, a shop manual, and parts catalogs. This car will need to be completed, but will be well worth the effort. Please feel free to ask questions. Call me at (618) 684-3707 (days) or (618) 426-3449. The car can also be inspected if you wish. The buyer will pay a $300 deposit preferably by Paypal with the balance to be paid when the car is picked up.
