Vehicle Detail
Immaculate 1974 Mercedes-Benz 240D This southwestern beauty is a documented one owner classic Mercedes-Benz with 91,320 original miles and the rare, but preferred 4-speed manual transmission. It is the W115 chassis with the venerable OM616.916 diesel engine that is world renowned for durability. The car has not been smoked in, the interior is a classic cream white MB-tex and with the exception of the one crack in the dashboard (see pics) is in excellent condition. This car has clearly spent most of its life in a garage; all weatherstripping, seals, seats and fabric is in like-new condition. The headliner is perfect. The exterior is all-original and the paint shines like new. The only blemishes are a small chip on the hood near the front center, a light scratch on the back passenger-side door, two very small dings on the trunk where it looks like it was closed on something in the trunk and a couple of small rust bubbles behind the passenger-side rear wheel-well. The pictures show all of these very minor issues. The car starts easily and runs like a German sewing machine. It has strong acceleration for a 240D and has no noticeable black smoke at full load. This is especially remarkable because I live at 7,000 feet. It averages about 27 MPG in mixed driving. Unlike every other Mercedes 240D I have owned, this one leaks absolutely no oil! It's solid. The engine compartment and undercarriage is clean. It tracks straight and true down the interstate, tires are 80%. Recent work includes new belts, water pump, glow plugs, hoses and new rubber brake lines to the wheels. The air conditioning blows cool, but not cold. The sight glass shows some bubbles so it probably needs a recharge to blow ice-cold. Otherwise, all electronics and switch gear are fully functional with no other known issues. I originally bought this car to replace my tired old 240D commuter, but this car is simply too nice to commute in. It doesn't feel right putting 75 miles a day and risking a car this perfect in the daily grind; so it's for sale to a good home. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Catch a flight into Albuquerque and I'll meet you at the Sunport with the car; it's reliable and ready for a cross country trip. Or, if you prefer, I'm happy to work with a vehicle shipper of your choosing at your cost.
