Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very rare 1 of 12 1988 Dale Earnhardt Limited Edition Monte Carlo SS. These cars were only sold at Earnhardt Chevrolet and this is the forerunner for the 2002 Earnhardt Edition which had a production run of 3333 cars. I purchased this car from the original owner who was in her 70's and lived less than 50 miles from Newton where the car was originally sold. She had purchased the car from Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, NC just outside of Charlotte on 9-16-88. When I was told about the car I did not believe that it was the real deal, The owners granddaughter had put up a add for this car and there were a few fuzzy photos that could hardly be made out along with a one line description. I called the number on the add and the granddaughter knew almost nothing about the car other than it was dusty, it had not been started for several years and it had Dale Earnhardt's name on the side. After hours of debating weather or not I should make the 7 hour round trip I called back and asked one last time "are you sure this is how the car looked when it was new" and again she replied "yes." When I arrived where the car was I met the Grandmother who told me in detail the history of the car and brought out photos of when it was new. When we brought the car home I was amazed at how well itcleaned up, it had always been kept inside and covered up but several years of setting had created a lot of dust. Fortunately the car did not suffer from storage. After installing a new battery and with a little work the car was up and running. This car has 132K on it but is in very good unrestored condition for a 1988, it is not 100% perfect but very nice. Some things that are less than perfect are a few small imperfections on the paint, one is a spot on the rear bumper to the left of the tag, it is in the pin striping and would be very easy to touch up. The second is the rocker panel cover trim was setting a little high and the driver door rubbed some paint inside the jamb, on the inside not the outside. The paint still has a great shine and looks very good. The inside nice for the year, there are no rips or tares in the seats, no stains on the carpet, the dash is great, gauges are clear, it has not been smoked in, headliner is good Etc. There are a few very minor details that are not perfect, some of the fuzz on the driver seat has been rubbed off as seen in the photo, and where the seat belt on the driver side is against the center console some of the paint has rubbed, also the switch on the driver side for the pass window is broken. The tint on the back window needs to be replaced, it is original but has some bubbles. The only thing that has been changed on the car is the radio fortunately she kept the original and it is included. This is what I would consider a very well kept 132K car. I would not hesitate to take it as is to a local car show or with a little work take it anywhere. As far the running condition the car start and sounds great but I did not preform a tune up after bring the car out of storage and I would recommend one, also the tires have flat spots on them from setting. I have sold many antique cars and motorcycles all over the world and I believe that this is a car will go up in value unlike the dollar. If you are a serious about buying this car give me a call @ 828-593-8876 for more information. I will not end this car early, it is not fair to other bidders.
