1983 Honda XR500RThis is a used 1983 Honda XR500R Dirt Bike. It is not street legal in Florida. The motorcycle has been sitting undercover in my storage shed for four years. It is in running condition; however, the two issues that it has is an oil leak (about a quarter sized spot per day) and it needs some tuning, which is evident by extreme difficulty in starting coupled with its propensity to flood on me during the start procedure. You should note that these older model thumpers have the old style manual decompression lever. Once I get it running it seems okay. I’ve ridden it a couple times since removing it from storage, shifts through the gears fine. I bought this bike in 2004 and rode it quite a bit on Florida trails through 2007 and then did a cosmetic restoration thinking I was going to continue to ride it. I put on a white Clarke Tank, UFO Fenders, fresh seat cover, fork savers, new Pro-Taper handle, gold chain; I painted the frame/engine/swingarm. I’d replaced the cables and levers about two years before that and they continue to look/work perfectly. It was originally orange. I could never find the side covers in white, so I just painted the OE plates; they’re not in the best of shape, but I have them secured with zip-ties if you look close. Anyway, I purchased some other contemporary dirt bikes and never got this back out on the trails, which is why it’s so clean. It really was a nice trail bike. It’s just old now. I hope someone has some interest putting a little work in it and using it on the trails again, or even better…the track. I do not know the total miles or hours on this motorcycle.
