I encourage you to inspect the vehicle personally or through an inspection service prior to bidding. 1.3. Be Aware That Vehicles Are Offered As Is/No Warranty Unless Stated. Unless otherwise stated in the vehicle description, the vehicle is being sold “as-is”, with no warranty. I try to accurately and fairly describe any known mechanical or cosmetic issues. However, as with any vehicle, mechanical or other failures may occur from time to time, and I cannot represent or warranty that they will not. You are responsible for any repairs made after the sale. 1.4. Mileage May Vary Slightly. I indicate the mileage of each vehicle at the time of listing. Please note that actual mileage may be slightly higher at the time of the end of the auction and/or delivery due to local test drives, detailing, etc. 2. Bidding on the Vehicle 2.1. Ready to Bid? If you’re ready to bid, great! Please keep in mind a few rules regarding bidding, which follow. 2.2. A Bid Is A Legally Binding Contract. Your bid constitutes a legally binding contract to purchase this vehicle. Please do not bid if you do not intend to, or are not financially able to, complete the purchase of the vehicle. Please have your financial arrangements in place prior to bidding. 2.3. I Don’t Allow Bidders With Negative Feedback. I do not allow bidding from bidders with negative feedback. New bidders with zero feedback should contact me prior to bidding. I reserve the right to obtain and verify the registered information of all users who bid on this auction, and to cancel any and all bids at my discretion. 2.4. I May End An Auction Early. I am a licensed Florida automobile dealer, and all of my vehicles are concurrently offered for sale locally. I reserve the right to end this auction without notice at any time if the vehicle is no longer available, or for any other reason in my sole discretion. Don’t let this vehicle get away! Call me now if you would like to make an offer. 3. Completing the Transaction 3.1. Contact Me. If you are the winning bidder, congratulations! You must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction to make arrangements for the completion of the transaction. My office phone number is 239.738.4440. 3.2. Pay a Deposit. You must pay a non-refundable $500.00 deposit within 24 hours after the end of the auction to secure the vehicle. Please see Section 3.4, below, for payment methods. 3.3. Pay the Balance Due. You must pay the remaining balance due (plus applicable fees and taxes – please see 3.5, below) within 7 days after the end of the auction. 3.4. Payment Methods. I accept cash in person (under $10,000 only), cashier’s checks, wire transfers, or commercial 3rd-party financing. I also accept PayPal for the payment of deposits only. All funds must be in US dollars. 3.5. Fees and Taxes. 3.5.1. Dealer Fee. I charge a $250 dealer fee, which will be added to all transactions. 3.5.2. Sales Tax, Registration & Title Fees. 3.5.2.1. Florida Buyers. You must pay Florida's 6% sales tax plus any local option taxes applicable in your county, and I am required to collect it at the time of the sale. You are also responsible for the cost of Florida title, tag and registration fees, which I collect an estimate of at the time of sale. If the actual cost of title and registration is less than the estimate, I will refund you the difference; if the actual cost is more that the estimate, you will be required to pay the difference. I do not make any money on tax, tag, registration and title fees I collect. 3.5.2.2. Out-of-State Buyers. If you take delivery of the vehicle at my location, I am required to collect all or a portion of the sales tax applicable to motor vehicle sales in your state, i.e., I am required to collect either (i) the actual rate applicable in your state, or (ii) 6%, whichever is less. Generally, you will receive a credit in your state for sales tax collected here (Note: although the vast majority of states have a reciprocal sales tax agreement with Florida, a few do not; please check with your local tag agency.) If your state’s sales tax rate on motor vehicles is greater than 6%, I am required to collect 6% and you will be responsible for paying the difference in your state. If you have the vehicle shipped and take delivery of it outside of Florida, I do not collect sales tax. In that case, you will be responsible for paying the sales tax applicable in your state directly. In any event, you will be responsible for handling the titling and registration of the vehicle in your state and for paying all associated fees and costs. 3.6. Exchange Documents and Signatures. There are, unfortunately, paperwork requirements for completing the transaction, which may vary depending on whether you are from out-of-state or not. These will be discussed when you contact me initially. 3.7. If You Fail to Pay or Communicate with Me. I expect the transaction to go smoothly. However, if you fail to (i) make contact with me, (ii) pay the deposit, (iii) provide me with required signatures/documents, or (iv) pay the remaining balance (including applicable fees, taxes, and charges), within the timeframes set forth herein, I reserve the right to keep your deposit and re-list the vehicle or otherwise sell it as I see fit, without notice, in my sole discretion. I also reserve the right to report the issue to eBay in my sole discretion. 4. Take Delivery of Your New Vehicle 4.1. Completed Transaction. Your vehicle will be available for pick up or shipping once full payment is received and all other paperwork requirements of the transaction are completed. 4.2. Pick Up. I am located at 2645 NE 9th Ave in Cape Coral, Florida. I am easily accessible from US 41 and from Interstate 75. The nearest airport is Southwest Florida Int’l Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers. I will happily assist you in finding a shipping company. However, you will be responsible for all arrangements and all costs of shipping. Here's a very rare 1990 Mercedes-Benz 300D 2.5 Turbo Diesel. This is a NO RESERVE auction. There’s no “Buy It Now” price…this car will be sold to the highest bidder. My philosophy is to give as thorough, accurate and frank a description of both the good and bad points as possible, and to show everything in pictures. I have included 75+ pictures of this car. If I have missed anything in pictures or in the description, or if anything is unclear, please ask before bidding…I will happily answer any questions.
This is a nice 300D for a number of reasons. The color combo is rare and good-looking, the interior is in great shape, and the engine and transmission perform perfectly. But it also has a few problems, both cosmetic and mechanical. So please be sure to read the entire description and check out all the pictures.
The exterior of the car looks good, overall. The car is a dark charcoal black metallic, with a black MB Tex interior. These colors are rare in my experience…I’ve had a number of these cars, and they always seem to be some shade of tan or beige. The paint looks great from a distance, but up-close inspection reveals that the horizontal surfaces (hood, roof and trunklid) are beginning to show some clearcoat haze. Also, the paint has a significant amount of scratches generally. Many of them are very light, but there are some heavier ones as well, most notably on the trunklid, on the front passenger door, and on both driver’s side doors. There is also some rust on the driver’s side front fender arch, and a tiny spot behind the passenger side rear fender arch. Rust is NOT a widespread problem on this car…it appears to be confined to the two areas mentioned. These items are all shown in the pictures, as are a few other relatively minor dings here and there including a crack in the plastic part of the front bumper. The alloy wheels are in good condition. Notwithstanding the few issues, you can see from the whole-car pictures that the car overall looks good. The color makes up for some of the minor blemishes, in my opinion anyway.
The interior of the car is in very good condition. It is upholstered in black MB Tex, which is a simulated leather (read: vinyl) that outlasts actual leather by decades. It looks very sharp in black, in my opinion. The upholstery is in great shape, with only a hint of wear on the driver’s seat. The headliner is in good condition. The dashboard is perfect and crack-free. The wood trim is overall glossy and nice, though it shows some cracking and veneer damage in the lower center console area. The sunroof has both a slide function and a tilt function and works. The automatic climate control A/C is cold and works properly. The driver and front passenger seats are power adjustable, though I noted a few of the tertiary power functions on the driver’s seat don’t work. All of the instruments work properly. The original factory stereo works fine. At the time of writing, I don’t remember whether the cruise control works or not; I will verify that and add it to the description (additions appear near the bottom of the listing) so please check back or ask me if that is an important feature for you. There is a small star in the windshield glass to report. There are no floor mats with this car, but it does come with the full set of owner’s manuals and three original keys – two masters and one valet. Again, I have tried to capture every angle of the interior in pictures, so be sure to check them out. All in all, the interior is in great condition.
The car has Mercedes’s very economical and durable 2.5 liter straight 5 cylinder turbodiesel engine. The engine starts right up and is immediately smooth and quiet. This car is particularly smooth and quiet compared to other 300D 2.5s I’ve had. The power is very good…these cars are NOT slow. And I observed 30+ MPG over the 1,200 or so miles I have driven the car personally. The serpentine belt is new. The transmission likewise performs perfectly in this car.
I did, however, notice several drivability issues with this car. There is more noise coming from the rear end than I consider normal in my experience with these cars. It may be bearing noise or differential noise or both. In any event, the rear end sounds more like a Crown Victoria with 206K than a 300D with 206K. Also, the front end feels “darty” to me, and the steering a little thick and deliberate. I had the front end aligned (which improved but didn't solve the issue), and the tech performing the work told me he didn't note any broken front end components (e.g., ball joints are OK according to him). So, I don’t know the cause of the front end issue either, unfortunately. The tires are so-so, but I don’t think they’re to blame. As I mentioned, I have personally driven this car approximately 1,200 miles, which included a 900+ mile road trip. So, obviously it is drivable. But, I’m reporting it doesn’t track down the road as nicely as other 300Ds I’ve had. You would ultimately want/need to repair these issues.
Finally, if you are looking for a vegetable oil (SVO / WVO) project, this car would be an excellent candidate.

Please also keep in mind that this is a pre-owned vehicle. As with any pre-owned vehicle, minor cosmetic flaws may be visible under close inspection.
1.2. Inspect the Vehicle. I encourage you to inspect the vehicle personally or through an inspection service prior to bidding.
1.3. Be Aware That Vehicles Are Offered As Is/No Warranty Unless Stated. Unless otherwise stated in the vehicle description, the vehicle is being sold “as-is”, with no warranty. I try to accurately and fairly describe any known mechanical or cosmetic issues. However, as with any vehicle, mechanical or other failures may occur from time to time, and I cannot represent or warranty that they will not. You are responsible for any repairs made after the sale.
1.4. Mileage May Vary Slightly. I indicate the mileage of each vehicle at the time of listing. Please note that actual mileage may be slightly higher at the time of the end of the auction and/or delivery due to local test drives, detailing, etc.
2. Bidding on the Vehicle
2.1. Ready to Bid? If you’re ready to bid, great! Please keep in mind a few rules regarding bidding, which follow.
2.2. A Bid Is A Legally Binding Contract. Your bid constitutes a legally binding contract to purchase this vehicle. Please do not bid if you do not intend to, or are not financially able to, complete the purchase of the vehicle. Please have your financial arrangements in place prior to bidding.
2.3. I Don’t Allow Bidders With Negative Feedback. I do not allow bidding from bidders with negative feedback. New bidders with zero feedback should contact me prior to bidding. 2.4. I May End An Auction Early. I am a licensed Florida automobile dealer, and all of my vehicles are concurrently offered for sale locally. 3. Completing the Transaction
3.1. Contact Me. If you are the winning bidder, congratulations! You must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction to make arrangements for the completion of the transaction. My office phone number is 239.738.4440.
3.2. Pay a Deposit. You must pay a non-refundable $500.00 deposit within 24 hours after the end of the auction to secure the vehicle. Please see Section 3.4, below, for payment methods.
3.3. Pay the Balance Due. You must pay the remaining balance due (plus applicable fees and taxes – please see 3.5, below) within 7 days after the end of the auction.
3.4. Payment Methods. I accept cash in person (under $10,000 only), cashier’s checks, wire transfers, or commercial 3rd-party financing. I also accept PayPal for the payment of deposits only. All funds must be in US dollars.
3.5. Fees and Taxes.
3.5.1. Dealer Fee. I charge a $250 dealer fee, which will be added to all transactions.
3.5.2. Sales Tax, Registration & Title Fees.
3.5.2.1. Florida Buyers. You must pay Florida's 6% sales tax plus any local option taxes applicable in your county, and I am required to collect it at the time of the sale. You are also responsible for the cost of Florida title, tag and registration fees, which I collect an estimate of at the time of sale. If the actual cost of title and registration is less than the estimate, I will refund you the difference; if the actual cost is more that the estimate, you will be required to pay the difference. I do not make any money on tax, tag, registration and title fees I collect.
3.5.2.2. Out-of-State Buyers. If you take delivery of the vehicle at my location, I am required to collect all or a portion of the sales tax applicable to motor vehicle sales in your state, i.e., I am required to collect either (i) the actual rate applicable in your state, or (ii) 6%, whichever is less. Generally, you will receive a credit in your state for sales tax collected here (Note: although the vast majority of states have a reciprocal sales tax agreement with Florida, a few do not; please check with your local tag agency.) If your state’s sales tax rate on motor vehicles is greater than 6%, I am required to collect 6% and you will be responsible for paying the difference in your state. If you have the vehicle shipped and take delivery of it outside of Florida, I do not collect sales tax. In that case, you will be responsible for paying the sales tax applicable in your state directly. In any event, you will be responsible for handling the titling and registration of the vehicle in your state and for paying all associated fees and costs.
3.6. Exchange Documents and Signatures. There are, unfortunately, paperwork requirements for completing the transaction, which may vary depending on whether you are from out-of-state or not. These will be discussed when you contact me initially.
3.7. If You Fail to Pay or Communicate with Me. I expect the transaction to go smoothly. However, if you fail to (i) make contact with me, (ii) pay the deposit, (iii) provide me with required signatures/documents, or (iv) pay the remaining balance (including applicable fees, taxes, and charges), within the timeframes set forth herein, I reserve the right to keep your deposit and re-list the vehicle or otherwise sell it as I see fit, without notice, in my sole discretion. I also reserve the right to report the issue to eBay in my sole discretion.
4. Take Delivery of Your New Vehicle
4.1. Completed Transaction. Your vehicle will be available for pick up or shipping once full payment is received and all other paperwork requirements of the transaction are completed.
4.2. Pick Up. I am located at 2645 NE 9th Ave in Cape Coral, Florida. I am easily accessible from US 41 and from Interstate 75. The nearest airport is Southwest Florida Int’l Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers. Please contact me to make arrangements if you are planning to pick the vehicle up. I can arrange to meet you at RSW and bring you to my location.
4.3. Shipping. I will happily assist you in finding a shipping company. However, you will be responsible for all arrangements and all costs of shipping. I assume no responsibility for damage to the vehicle incurred after it leaves my premises.
