1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6 cylinder, auto w/OD, ONLY 104K MILES, 3rd owner…just passed inspection. This is my daily driver, bought with 36,000, has had all regular maintenance and necessary repairs, except for those listed below. With a few hundred bucks in parts, this will run reliably for years to come, can be driven as is for a while….drove it out to Pa. last week. This motor is an extremely reliable old 60’s style dinosaur, with 250k miles quite common with no major problems….just don’t be in a hurry. This same block powered the "awesome" AMC Gremlin and Hornet. Has class 2 trailer hitch and wiring harness. NO POWER SEAT...LISTING WON'T LET ME DELETE IT FOR SOME REASON. Has air, p/w, p/l, tilt, cruise, alloy wheels, roof rack. Unused donut spare and jack are there. THE GOOD Very good overall condition for the year, motor is strong with NO PINGING common to the 4.0. Runs smooth…trans is good, shifts solid, Selec-Trac 4 wheel drive works in all modes. NO DEATH WOBBLE, had it in the past….replaced front rotors and steering stabilizer and that took care of it. Interior VERY clean for the year, only smoked in occasionally by my wife. No tears in seats, glass is all good. Tires have only 9k miles… tires, battery, alignment, serpentine belt, trans fluid and filter, sway bar bushings, 02 sensor, rear pads and rotors all done within the last year. AVERAGE OIL CHANGE INTERVAL FOR THE PAST 7 YEARS JUST UNDER 3500 MILES. FREE WELL-USED COPY OF HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL INCLUDED. THE BAD Front axle(s) chirping like a canary and clunk on tight turns, so figure on replacing at least 1, smart to do both at once…about $70 per side for the part at Advance. Steering pump will need replacing….not enough boost at low rpm…another $70 at Advance. Rear defroster has never worked (wiper does). Exhaust still in 1 piece, but bangs on rear sway bar since OEM tailpipe hanger came off…replaced with cheapie universal. Front passenger power window off track….the grab bar that holds the glass in place at the bottom slips off, motor and track OK and window shuts tight…should be a cheap fix. AC drain hose is clogged, so you can’t run it without water dumping into the passenger side floor. I tried the internet trick of drilling a small hole in the casing and reaming out the hose with a hanger, but it only worked for a few days before clogging up again, so the casing will have to come apart for access to the hose. A pain in the ass, but cheap or nothing to fix. Otherwise, blows cold. Will need new shocks, these have 60k miles on them. The front pads have 20K on them, will need swapping out soon (recommend rotors at same time...$35 apiece). THE UGLY Has one crease on the passenger front fender with a small rust spot at the corner and a rub mark just above the bumper…not bad…see pix. Front bumper cover basically just hanging on by friction, but has been like this for 4 years or so without falling off. Hood flew open while testing brakes, slightly bending the back of hood…see pix. Little dings and chips as expected for the year. A couple of small spots on seats…nothing real bad or through the covers. IF YOU THINK A PERFECT 15 YEAR OLD CAR EXISTS, PLEASE SAVE BOTH OF US THE AGGRAVATION AND DON’T BID…and get a life. Small crack on driver door armrest...center armrest a little wobbly.
