Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1970 Buick GS-455. VIN 446370H296493. Its painted in its original code 75 Fire Red with a black bucket seat interior. Non A/C, no vinyl top car. Factory options include- Turbo 400 transmission with full length console, Deluxe interior with convienince group, power disc brakes, Sonomatic AM radio, Instrument gauges with 24 hour rallye clock. Option added to this car, are the body colored sport mirrors, 3 spoke rallye steering wheel, GSX rear wing and GSX hood tach. Both of which are original GM parts, not reproductions. Trim tag reads- 44637 FL1 240753 TR 188 75-75 PNT 04D Driveline- The 455 in the car is not the original engine. It was rebuilt about 5-7 years ago. Its been off the road for several years, so I don’t believe there were very many miles put on it. For what its worth, the previous owner told me he had $5k invested in the engine rebuild. I unfortunately, I do not have any records or receipts to prove that, but if you’ve ever rebuilt an engine, spending $5k isn’t really that hard to do. It has an Edelbrock aluminum intake, Holley 750 carb, an MSD pro billet distributor with a 6A box and a what looks like a very old set of Kenne Bell headers. Engine runs very well. The previous owner told me that he installed a mild performance cam during the rebuild, although the exact specs are unknown. Transmission is the original 70-BB which has a very healthy shift. It will leave a little stretch of rubber going into second and chirp the tires into third. The rear axle is a non original 12 bolt Chevy with a set of steep, 4.11 gears. I can tell you that this car is very quick and does a very good job of pressing you back in the seat. It pulls very hard. I don’t think anyone will be disappointed in how it performs. Body- The car has all the typical rust that you would find on a GM A body and then some. It will require the standard laundry list of A body sheetmetal if you are planning on restoring it back to its former glory. Rear window and windshield both leak. Floors are in remarkably good shape though. Ive taken an album full of pictures which I have posted on Photobucket showing detail shots of any problem areas. Click on link right below- http://s482.photobucket.com/albums/rr188/mr-trishield/1970%20GS-455/ Interior- The interior is a bit ratty but usable. Again, its going to need a complete interior kit if your going to restore it. The works- door panels, interior quarter panels and armrests, seat covers, sail panels and a headliner, etc. The 24 hour Rallye clock has been converted to quartz, so it works perfectly. The factory radio was bench tested and works, but will need a speaker installed. There is a set of Autometer gauges mounted under the dash. Wheels and tires- The car is wearing a 1980’s vintage set of 15x7 Keystone Vortex/ Centerline style wheels and 235/60-15 Firestone Firehawk SS tires. I have a set of the original style 15” Buick rallyes that will go with the car, but they are in very poor shape. Mechanical items that I know the car will need- the carburetor needs an overhaul badly. Frankly, If I were to keep the car, I would put a Holley 850 double pumper on it and sell the 750 vacuum. The car will need rear wheel cylinders and rear shoes. The brake pedal is low and the light comes on when you step on it. The car stops, but not very well. I wouldn’t want to stop it from 50 mph. Because of the poor brakes, the car will need to be trailered home as it is not driveable with the brakes in thier current condition. Overall, it’s a nice car that can be used and enjoyed the way it is. Or it would make an excellent candidate for a restoration. it is certainly worthy of one. Please ask questions prior to bidding. I will try and answer them to the best of my ability. Pleae note- New York State does not issue titles on cars older than 73. This car has a transferable registration. What that means is that the seller signs the back of the registration to transfer ownership. Please research this on the NY DMV website before hand so you don’t think I’m trying to pull a fast one on you. That’s the way it is. Buying a car sight unseen is never a good idea. I would encourage anyone within driving distance to come down and take a look at the car in person. Or send a club or fellow forum member to come look at it on your behalf. Im close to Islip/ Macaurthur airport and I can pick you up at the airport if you want to fly in. Please abide by the rules of this auction- I require a $200 deposit within 24 hours via Paypal. The balance is to be paid in cash upon pickup. No money orders, cashiers checks or otherwise will be accepted. Buyer is responsible to arrange any and all shipping. Car will need to be trailered home. I will certainly help load it on your trailer with you. Again, if you have any questions, problems viewing pictures or need further pics of anything I didn’t post, please email me. Thanks and good luck! On Apr-06-11 at 18:48:43 PDT, seller added the following information: The transmission is a 70 BA code, not BB. Typo, sorry. On Apr-08-11 at 04:45:32 PDT, seller added the following information: ATTENTION- To anyone bidding from overseas- In order for this car to clear customs and leave the country, the car must have current registration with the state and be insured. which it is NOT. The registration is expired and it is not currently insured. I also require cash on pickup as stated in the auction decription. Paypal will NOT be accepted for payment. So please keep this in mind when bidding. And please...if your unsure about anything, PLEASE ask questions BEFORE bidding. Thank you
