Many buyers of the new Ram have reported spending more time in the shop than on the road. My wife and I have land here in Colorado and we were hoping to begin building a home this year and that was the main reason I purchased this truck. We also had hopes to purchase a camping trailer and start vacationing more. However, both of those plans have now been delayed for several years due to the birth of our daughter and thus, I no longer need this big & powerful of a truck. I work 6 miles from my office and I usually take the trolley on days I don't need to drop my daughter off at daycare. Therefore, this beautiful truck sits more in the garage than it does out on the road. I have not even had a chance to pull anything behind it. It runs and drives just as you would expect for a low mileage diesel. Cummins built these engines to go over 300,000 miles before needing a rebuild and this engine is no exception. It runs smooth and does not use or burn any oil. Also, there are no fluid leaks of any kind. The oil & filter were just changed along with the fuel filter. The transmission and other fluids were changed around 70k miles and the tires were replaced around 80k miles. The body is in above average condition and I always get compliments on how clean it looks. It does have a few very minor imperfections that I can't capture in the pictures. It does not have any major dings or scratches but it does have minor rock chips from driving the dirt roads in this part of Colorado & it does have a few very minor dings that are hard to see. There are no cracks or stars in the glass but the inside window tint does have a few scratches. It has the upgraded leather interior with suede inserts. I would describe the color between a tan and a gray. All the electrics work as they should. There is no rust to speak of and no history of body damage. The interior is smoke free and clean. The leather is in above average condition with no rips or tears. I paid cash so there is no lien & I have a clear and clean title in hand. If you think "big" and "diesel" are both characteristics that predict a truck will have a noisy, rough ride, this Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel will be a pleasant surprise. It's as quiet as can be inside the cab and the truck takes you down the highway in smooth comfort. It is powered by the popular 6-cylinder 5.9-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine that delivers over 325 hp and over 500 foot pounds of torque with it's upgraded cold air intake and Edge programmer. These items were added to increase the fuel economy. With these upgrades I get over 18 mpg in town and around 20-23 mpg on the highway. The fuel display for this tank is currently reading 26 mpg but a more accurate hand calculation at fill-ups usually shows the fuel display actually reads 2 to 4 mpg higher. Its 4-speed automatic transmission has a handy Trailer Mode setting to help minimize those annoying up and down gear changes that take place when you're pulling something behind you -- a feature Ive never put to use. Sitting behind the wheel of this big truck makes you even more aware of its size. It isn't difficult to get comfortable though, because the leather bucket driver seat has power adjusts that let you configure them into just about any position you like. Adjust the steering wheel and mirrors and you are ready to drive any distance in comfort. Flip the key in the ignition and the first thing you'll notice is how quiet it is inside the cab. There are a couple of reasons; newer diesels are more quiet than older versions, but the 2005 Ram's insulation does a real good job of buffering exterior sounds. If you've driven older diesel trucks you know they can be sluggish. Not the 2005 Ram 2500. It's responsive on acceleration and, while I have not had a chance to pull anything behind it, the truck easily pulls the steep grade I drive going up to our land. It is a 15 mile drive and climbs over 2,000 feet of elevation. What's wonderful is it makes this climb and never shift out of overdrive. At 55 mph the engine is barely turning at 1500 rpms. The ride on smooth roads and major highways is surprisingly comfortable, considering this Ram's stiff, heavy duty suspension. Towing and payload are usually critical points for anyone who needs a large diesel truck. Compare this Ram to the long bed gas version of the Quad Cab and you'll find that the diesel delivers a little over 6,000 pounds of extra towing capability and the same number of increased payload pounds while delivering much better fuel economy.
