Vehicle Detail

I have to relist this bike because of problems with previous bidders, those people who bid and then retract their promised payments, dont call, etc make life difficult for all of us... Lovely 1948 Triumph Tiger 100, I acquired this from a friend of mine some time ago. As you can see, the bike is in very solid condition and is 85% complete. All the important parts are there, leaving very minor parts to finish, ie levers, cables etc. Unfortunately the bike does not have the original engine, but very fortunately the bike does have a very desirable TR5 close finned aluminum head and barrel motor in it. Although this makes the bike un original, it is a much better motor than the original motorcycle came with, and still remains period correct. The top end of the motor is currently loose, under inspection the bottom end is in fantastic condition, the con rods are tight, and the crank shaft is smooth without any signs of end play.As you can see from the pictures, the timing side of the motor is in immaculate condition, Pictures of the cam also show there is no wear, and looks as if they are new. The cam followers have been re faced and the cylinder has been honed and is accompanied by a brand new pair of Hepalite standard size pistons. The head and barrel are in impeccable condition, with no fin damage of any kind. The head is without valve guides and valves, but obviously this is easily rectified, and would be a part of a normal restoration anyway. The rocker boxes are in fantastic condition with no damage at all and again the rockers are in perfect condition. The magneto does not spin as smoothly as I would like, and may need some attention although it did provide a good spark when tested. The primary sprocketts and drive are all in fantastic condition, as is the clutch, which I have disassembled and inspected. The condition of the clutch is often a good sign of how the bike was ridden and used, and this one is the best I've ever seen, there are no signs of wear whatsoever on the clutch drum, hub, or plates. This bike was ridden with great care, and all the parts seem to be original. The transmission has not been disassembled by me, but there are no signs of end play or main shaft play, and a visual inspection of the outside indicates that the transmission has been rebuilt. The wheels both seem to spin freely, and are running on the original Dunlop rims. The gas tank is in exceptionally immaculate condition on the top side and underneath, for all intents and purposes it looks as if its brand new. The oil tank is the larger Tiger 100 version, with the winged oil cap, also free of any dents, scores or damage of any kind. The frame is in fantastic condition and has not been bent or dented. In fact the whole bike is in exceptional condition in every way and is the perfect basis for a restoration project. With these bikes fetching upwards of $17,000 in auction recently, it makes this project financially very viable too. The paperwork has been lost over the years, but it will have a bill of sale with it, making registration simple.Or I can recommend a good lien sale company, which makes registration super simple.
