Vehicle Detail

Dark blue 1960 Cadillac four-door, six-window hardtop sedan that needs a complete restoration. Bought this 1960 Cadillac on November 01, 1998 from a private individual in Custer, South Dakota, with the full intent of restoring it. Neither time, money, nor space are available for me to do this, now. Here's what you need to know, both good and bad: mileage is unknown, the numbers are flaking off the odometer. it was driven between 50-100 miles since I acquired it.it was stored in an enclosed locker in Hot Springs, South Dakota from late 1998 or early 1999 until July, 2008, when it was towed to my property, near Hot Springs. It has been stored, covered, under a carport since.it "ran when parked", probably the last time in 2004 or 2005.the vehicle will need brake, steering, and suspension repair. the engine cranked for a antique car dealer who looked at it in 2008, before it was towed to my property.after cranking, a wet stain appeared under the vehicle several weeks later. There is still oil in the engine, but no coolant.there is no exhaust system beyond the exhaust manifolds. A complete dual exhaust system will be needed. body has been repaired in some spots (in front of left taillight housing, for one), and been repainted from a lighter blue.there is almost no rust on the sheet metal.small ding in sheet metal and "eyebrow" chrome over the right headlights 390 ci V-8factory installed air conditioning (does not work)power windows (including vents!)--most do not work. Passenger side front window jammed about 3 inches open.six-way power seat (cannot remember if the mechanism worked)vacuum operated power door locks (worked weakly--all vacuum lines will need to be replaced)autotronic eye (automatic headlight dimmer--I never liked these--I don't know if this one works)power trunk lock (actually works!) cruise control (does not work--cruise control unit missing) power antenna replaced with a non-operating substitute. I cannot recall if the radio works. It would be the factory AM monaural radio, complete with the little CONLRAD emergency broadcast station symbols.there appears to be an early-day block heater apparatus attached to the engine. no carpetingupholstery torn in placesheadliner in complete tattersrear package tray rottedwindshield wipers and washer do not workdash was removed to work on heater-A/C system and is currently on the floor in front of the back seat. All A/C ductwork was removed as well. The dash cover is cracked and will need to be replaced.removal of the dashboard involved disassembly of the cruise control controller, speedometer, and autotronic eye. All the parts are included (I sincerely hope!) door panels and door upholstery in fair condition. Door panel forms are slightly warped.both rear wheel covers are missing.hubcaps are missing. I believe I have 3 and one is missing. there is neither spare tire nor jack.there is no trunk liner material.a previous owner welded a trailer hitch to the rear bumper.front and rear bumper chrome is actually fairly good. an original owner's manual and case are included.I have a duplicate South Dakota title from the individual who sold me the car.Wyoming state sales tax was paid in Campbell County, Wyoming, where I lived when I purchased the vehicle, but the vehicle has never been registered by me, neither in Wyoming nor South Dakota.vehicle weighs almost 5,000 pounds (2268 kg.) and is about 19 feet long (5.8 meters). I made the following repairs or acquired the following parts in the early 2000s: I replaced all vacuum hoses for the heater-A/C system.I installed 3 new vacuum actuators for the heater-A/C system.I installed a rebuilt heater core.I replaced the heater hot water valve. The air seal gasket for the heater core was rotted so a new one was cut out of a styrofoam pad. I have since acquired a new aftermarket gasket which will be included, but not installed.I replaced all the drive belts. I installed a new trunk lock key core.I installed a new brake light switch.I obtained a long right-rear panel chrome strip from a local salvage yard.I purchased, on eBay, a lot of spare parts for this vehicle which does include a cruise control unit and an electrical trunk-lock mechanism. I do not know if either of these work. These will be included.A potential buyer will have to haul or transport this vehicle. It is not drivable. I cannot think of more to list, although I am sure I will think of things later. If there are questions, please call 307 689-2701 (I still have a Wyoming cell phone number). I live in the Mountain Time Zone. I have a very nice 1961 Cadillac, 4-door, 4-window hardtop. I have all I can do to maintain this vehicle and keep the restoration "fresh". So, the 1960 has to go. On Mar-30-11 at 07:36:02 PDT, seller added the following information:There is interest in this car from several eBay members outside of the US. If a bidder from another country wins the bid, that person will have to make shipping arrangements. This may be difficult. The car has to be hauled on a car transporter from my home to a seaport on either US coast, then loaded on a ship to go overseas. Because the car does not run at this time, car transporters in the US do not want to haul this car, because they will not be able to get in onto and off from car carrier trucks. To get the vehicle to run, I will have to buy a battery, and determine why there is a coolant leak (and fix it). One trucker from South Dakota quoted me a price of $1900 US to transport this car to New York City, if I could get it running. I do not know how much the ship transport would cost. I am sure it would depend on the final destination. I hope this information will be helpful to any and all potential bidders.
