Vehicle Detail
I have decided to sell my 83 Monte Carlo SS project car. These are very rare as only 4,714 were produced in 1983. I also have at least two build sheets and a reproduction window sticker for the car. I purchased this car as a driver in 1999 and took it off the road for about a year to have body and paint work done. The car was totally taken apart and stripped to bare metal before having some rust repair in the rear fenders fixed. At that time a new front fender as well as a rust free drivers door and trunk lid were purchased. I also had the rear frame rails replaced from the tires back as they were thin and this is a common spot for these cars to rust out. The care then underwent primer and a lot of body smoothing before having several coats of original color base coat. The car was sanded between each coat of primer and base coat and then had two coats of clear. This all lead to a very smooth and clean car that I drove for about two years before the original numbers matching motor developed a knock. I took it off the road with the intention of replacing the motor but have never gotten back to it. Most of the paint is still in very good shape and would look great if washed up but unfortunately some rust is creeping back into the lower rear quarters and the bottoms of both doors. The interior is in very good shape with no tears or stains to the original blue and white interior that was exclusive to this year cat. The transmission is a TH350 and was rebuilt before I bought the car and shifted very crisp and strong. It does need a trans pan gasket as it has dried and leaks a little. Mileage is unknown as the speedometer was broken when I bought the car. It has since been replaced and works fine. The in dash clock still works also. I also repaired the fuel gauge. The only gauge which I could not get working was the oil pressure. All power windows and locks work. The rear axle has been replace and I do not know the gear ratio or whether it is a posi or not. The car is being sold as is and will need some things to be put back on the road. It will need brake and fuel lines, exhaust, and motor work. As you can see by the pictures the motor has been partially torn down and is ready to lift out of the car. I may have some of these parts available but the car is basically being sold as is in the pictures. I do know that I have the drivers side door panel which is off the car at the moment. I will attempt to include any other original parts which I may locate. I would prefer that the car is picked up locally but am willing to discuss shipping. Payment is preferred in cash but will also accept paypal. If you have any questions at all please feel free to ask. Thank you for looking. UPDATE! I just looked at floor, core support, and head liner for another eBay member. The core support is in excellent shape with no rust. I believe this was replaced with a new one when paint work was done. The floors are ok. They do have some rust scale around mounts but the only through door is about a quarter size in the passenger front floor where it meets the firewall. The only thing I did not notice is the head liner has fallen more than I thought and will need to be reglued or replaced. I wanted to revise this in order to be fair and honest to all potential bidders. Thank you to the member who brought these items to my attention. On Mar-29-11 at 22:43:39 PDT, seller added the following information: Update #2. There has been a number of questions as to what parts are or are not included in the auction and I tried to look over everything I had very well today and give a more accurate description. I'll start with the engine bay. I believe I found everything to complete this area including newer aluminum Camero radiator, newer starter, newer alternator, original ac compressor, coolant bottle, fan, fan shroud, evaporate canister, power steering pump, mounting brackets, ac lines, ac condenser, water pump, carb, and a set of Accel 8.8 silicone spark plug wires. Next is the interior. The only things not installed right now are the passenger side door panel which is in excellent shape and the radio surround which is included along with the original Delco cassette deck. Unfortunately, I was not able to find the removable face for the Pioneer CD player. I will look for this again tomorrow and post again if I locate it. As for the underbody, there are a few heat shields and inspection covers removed but these are also included in the trunk. I am however unable to locate a driveshaft at this point. It was removed for easy of moving the car and apparently misplaced. Spare tire is included with mounting hardware and the cover that goes with it. I did not see a jack though. Also wanted to note that the front nose has a newer emblem shield that is in perfect shape. There is a set of wheel locks on the car but I have included the socket that goes with them. All bolts and small parts removed were carefully bagged and tagged as to what they were and where they came from. This is all I know and can see or remember right now. Please feel free to ask questions on anything. I will keep a close eye on my email as the auction draws to a close. Thank you and good luck in your bidding.
