Vehicle Detail

Hi All: Up for auction today is a 1982 Honda Nighthawk CB 450 SC motorcycle. I bought this about year ago as a daily driver, and just bought a new Nissan Versa. While I hate to part with this bike, I have two cars now, am moving to New York in April or May, and just do not need it anymore. My loss, your gain. The Good: Title in hand, ready for transfer. Current registration. Runs strong. Never had any engine/tranny problems. This bike has heart. Reliable. Put gas in it, and it runs. That’s all there is to say. SUPER fun to ride. Nice, light bike. Good handling and power. Honda Nighthawks are noted for both of these things. Dirt cheap on gas. This baby gets 30-40 mpg depending on how crazy you are on the throttle. NEW TIRES. Front and rear both; old ones were bald when I got the bike. Owner maintained. Have changed oil twice in past 5000 miles, and filter once. Paint. Have a fresh bottle of black touch-up paint that goes with the bike. Battery. Kept charge the entire winter even though bike not ridden. Battery is strong. The Bad: Ignition Switch. What ignition switch? Stopped working last year, got rid of it and rigged bike up through a toggle switch. Bike needs no key to start, just like a dirt bike. Easy to fix, but does suppose you can find theparts and put in the time and money. Tachometer. Removed in order to replace bulb, no reason to put back on because of missing tach cable. Unknown if works or not, but does go with bike. Turn signals. Turn signals will not light up despite my best efforts, a new bulb, and a complete wiring trace. As a result, every now and then you’ll probably be “that guy” riding around with your turn signal on, if it lights at all. If you ever fix it, holla back let me know how you did so. The Ugly: No tachometer cable. Did not have one when I got the bike, so I took the tach off. I have no replacement cable, but of course the tach goes with the bike. Bike runs a little rough, with some hesitation and a little bogging in certain spots. Thisis probably because it hasn't been run all winter, I put fresh gas in today (3/19/2011)and it's already beginning to smooth out. This bike could almost certainly use carb rebuilds but can be ridden easily as is. Gas tank patched. Developed a pinhole leak on the left-had side of the gas tank. I fixed this with a flush, clean, and tank lining (visible when you take off the gas cap). Patch has been painted nicely, but is visible if you get right up on it (within a foot). Side cover repair. One of the prongs that holds the side cover on the left side was broken off when I got the bike. I patched it with plastic cement. No real cosmetic problem, but you can see the patch inside the cover. Ding on tank. The brake line on the right hand side dings the tank. Have not wanted to mess with the brake line, and simply bending it up is risky—can kink or break line.. Easy to fix if you commit to it, I never did. I have photographed all of the known issues with the bike, SEE ALL PICTURES. If you have any questions, call me at 765-714-2744 or email at rmclaury@purdue.edu. You are welcome to come and ride the bike, if you’d like—bike is currently tagged and was driven every day until mid-November of last year. Have ridden it since to the gas station and around the neighborhood, should make someone a nice commuter or weekend bike. This is a NO RESERVE auction, the winning bidder will own the bike. Please refrain from bidding unless you’re read through the description, and/or do not plan on paying for this item. Any shipping is the winning bidder’s responsibility, I cannot coordinate shipping because I am a school teacher finishing a doctorate, and therefore am never at home. PLEASE EMAIL or CALL WITH ANY QUESTIONS PRIOR TO BIDDING. A $50.00 titling fee will be added to the winning bid--TAKE THIS INTO ACCOUNT WHEN BIDDING! Winning bidder to pay in full within 24 hours via PayPal or cash in person, or the bike will be relisted. Many thanks, good luck, and happy bidding!
