Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a stunningly beautiful 1947 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith sedanca de ville. The body is by H. J. Mulliner and its chassis number is WZB15. The engine number is W-14-B; Body #4857, Design # 7055 and was originally delivered in April 1948 to a Mr. Hale from Connecticut. It has been awarded the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) Senior Badge # 2031. The chassis was made by Rolls-Royce in 1947 and delivered to H. J. Mulliner where the body was made. It's titled as a 1948, as that is when the coachworks were completed and it was delivered to the original owner. The Rolls-Royce Owners Club (RROC) considers it a 1947, whereas the CCCA considers it a 1948. It is designated a "Full Classic" by the CCCA. It has a 4-1/4 litre engine with a four speed manual transmission (plus reverse). There are hydraulic brakes to the front and mechanical brakes in the rear, with servo assist to the front brakes off the transmission. The Bijour lubrication system is also present and working perfectly. All of the large and small tools are present (as you'll see from the pictures), including a manual hand crank, should the need ever arise. In the sedance de ville body, the metal roof over the driver retracts into the rear of the roof (shown in picture). It has a divider window between driver and rear passengers. Between 1978 and 1992 this fine automobile went through a loving restoration, including a total rebuild of the engine (including boring and new cylinders), repainting (after being stripped to the bare metal), new upholstery and carpets. The car is unique (well, OK, the Rolls-Royce Owners Club directory lists just six (6) 1947 Silver Wraith sedanca de villes in existence). While the restoration is approximately 19 years old, the car still shows beautifully (see the awards it has won and continues to win below), it's a sexy head-turner, and drives flawlessly. Just look at the pictures! AWARDS WON: CCCA Senior Badge #2031 (1997) 1st Place in Touring Class (RROC Meeting at Homestead, Virginia) 2nd Place in Concours Class (RROC Meeting in Lexington, Kentucky) RR/Bentley 2000 Millenium Meeting - National Award Winner Jack Tefney Award at CCCA Show at Stan Hywet Hall for best Rolls-Royce (2009) J. E. Roll "Best Interior" Award at the CCCA Sponsored Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles (2009) Best of Show at British Car Day at Ursuline College (2008) 2nd in Class (RR/Bentley before 1949) at British Car Day at Ursuline College (2009) 2nd in Class (RR/Bentley before 1949) at British Car Day at Ursuline College (2010) 1st Place in Class at the Shaker Square Car Show in 1992, 1996, 2003 and 2010 The automobile has been very well cared for, including new tires (about 18 months ago), and newly rebuilt shocks in the Summer of 2010. A few minor flaws do exist. Presently, the divider window needs an adjustment to work properly. That would be easily fixed, but the weather in Northeast Ohio doesn't yet encourage taking this baby out to the repair shop. There is a tiny bit of rust on the rear bumper on the driver side. I tried to show in it a picture below, but it is very hard to make out. The rear window shade does not work, but that hardly seems worth the effort or expense to bother with it. I should also mention that the radio pictured in the rear seating compartment does not work. Other than that, this beauty is in great shape. It's a pleasure to drive (note the 4 speed gear shift between the driver's seat and the door). I hate to part with this fine automobile, but I'm retiring to Florida and it will not fit in my new garage. The automobile is currently titled and located in Canton, Ohio. This car is an award winner, but not brand new from the showroom floor. The minor appearance flaws give it some character, and are appropriate to a car that is 63+ years old. Given the age, the car clearly comes without warranty of any kind, and is sold "AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH ALL FAULTS". Inspections, at bidder's expense, are welcome prior to bidding. The successful bidder is responsible for all necessary shipping and transportation. A deposit of $500 via PayPal is required of the winner bidder within 48 hours of the close of the auction. The balance is due via Cashier's or Certified Check, or wire transfer, prior to delivery.
