Sharp and sporty with those evocative long sweeping lines that helped to color a generation of imaginations, this excellent example has been preserved and respected for more than thirty-five years. This Spirit of ’76 has low original miles and remains exceptionally well optioned with almost every option from the factory because this car was originally purchased by the owner of a local Chevrolet dealer for his wife, hence the low miles. Moreover everything works from the courtesy lights to the key warning buzzer and the cold air conditioning. EXTERIOR Once you change focus from those beautiful bodylines to the paint, you won’t mistake the brilliant definition that new buffed two-stage lacquer paint reveals in this straight and clean body that appears in our opinion to be accident free. When we had the body repainted all lights, trim and weather-strip were removed for the process that took months. The frame is from the arid southwestern United States and beautiful for it. Not driven much, the first female owner used it as a grocery getter. The door weather-strip is new and the pillars are good or new as well.. The previous owner maintained this shark meticulously, investing more than $20k on its preservation over the years! We were so impressed with the original quality of the car that we traveled more than five thousand miles roundtrip adding it to the stable. The attractive new white letter radial tires look great on the factory optioned original beautifully polished slotted aluminum wheels. The plastic air dam in the front is new. The headlights and the wipers are fully functional. All of the lights/ signals are functional. The spare tire carrier is in place and looks good. The removable t-tops pop off easily with two latches on either side. This well preserved Corvette has been a pleasure to enjoy. INTERIOR The highly optioned factory Deluxe Interior shows almost every comfort and convenience option because it was for the dealer’s wife! The very original interior was nice (showing only minor wear) when we received it, but now appears very beautiful with recovered leather seats, door panels and sun visors. The original dash is very nice and the all of the gauges are not only functional (save the clock) but all the gauge faces are so well preserved that they appear as close to new as we ever see. The car was definitely parked inside most of the time. The custom auto sound stereo works great, has a memory card slot as well an mp3 port for an iPod. All of the rear compartment doors are functional but no longer work like new. The power windows work like new as we had one rebuilt and the other serviced. The interior is very nice and surprisingly comfortable on long rides. MECHANICAL The rebuilt original numbers matching 350 cubic inch motor has plenty more horsepower now than when it left the factory and looks gorgeous in the beautifully detailed motor compartment remaining mated to the factory automatic transmission. The motor compartment is very original with the factory optioned slotted aluminum valve covers polished brilliantly to match the wheels. Running out strong, the transmission goes through its gears nicely never missing a beat as you can see and hear in the video. When the motor was rebuilt all accessories were rebuilt or replaced including the water pump, carburetor, alternator, starter and a/c compressor. All of the belts and hoses were changed at that time as well. We installed a new radiator and rebuilt all of the power steering components including the ram, valve and pump as well replaced hoses. The bushings and suspension were serviced by the previous owner and she rides much better now with new tires. The brakes have been all replaced and serviced in the past with stainless steel sleeved calipers and they stop well. We also rebuilt the parking brakes in the rear with new hardware and shoes. The exhaust has been serviced with awesome sounding mufflers and we installed a new catalytic converter. The A/C was serviced with a new compressor along with other tangential parts and now blows cold with a fresh charge in the system. We just drove this car more than 1500 miles, the last leg of which crossed one desert and three mountain ranges never even touching 200 degrees with lots of power through all passes without any hesitation.
