Vehicle Detail
I have for sale a 1985 Jeep CJ7. I purchased it in Chicago area in 2001 with a bad motor. I replaced the motor and clutch and got it running. A few years later I had transmission problems and I had the transmission rebuilt and the transfer case checked out. The transfer case checked out good. About 4 years ago I installed a center force 2 clutch and pressure plate. Around that time I purchased and installed a full traction spring over kit. I had to extend the brake hose lines when I added the lift. I also added aprox. 1 3/4" lift shackles. I also still have the smaller shackles. I also have replaced the rear u-joints, distributor, electric fan, front speakers. I would estimate the rebuilt engine probably has around 20,000 miles and the transmission has around 15,000 miles. I have no idea what the total miles are on the jeep. It runs, drives, and has current registration (Texas) and state inspection. It has a 258 ci. (4.2 liter) engine, a T176 transmission, and I’m not sure what transfer case. I can try and research and figure out what transfer case it has. The 4X4 including the hubs all works. I also have a hard top and doors. OK, so for the bad stuff. It does not have power steering or brakes. It has a lot of play in the steering wheel. It has cancer in lots of places. The rear window hatch/frame is rusted out and needs to be replaced, but I still have the glass and it is in good shape. . It runs and drives, but when you let off the gas or hit the brakes it dies which could be compensated with a high idle. I think this is related to the feedback carburetor or possibly intake gasket leak. It has 33" tires in the rear and 31" tires in the front. The clutch linkage needs to be rebuilt or replaced, it can be found online as a kit or you can change it out to a hydraulic clutch. I never climbed any rocks with it. I did take it mudding lots of times. I have had a lot of fun with it and don't want to sell it but I need the money for the coming baby. My boys are sad to see it go as I am. You could drive it off when you pick it up and I have complete faith that it would go several hundred miles without breaking down. But due to the slop in the steering I would not recommend driving it on the street at high speeds. It needs work but would be a fun toy or great deer lease 4wheeler that you could drive to the store! Serious bidders only please! I am going to set the reserve at $1500.00 and if I cannot get at least that I will keep it. I have a box of parts that go with it as well, which includes the carpet. I will not be responsible for shipping. Buyer must pick up or arrange pickup. Once the auction is over and I receive payment, I might agree to deliver it within 100 miles. Thanks for looking and good luck! Here is a link to a video of the engine running and outer condition on YouTube.
