1949 Chevrolet 3600 long bed 3/4 ton pickup. I purchased the truck from the original owner a few years ago with the intent of fixing it up and using as a knock-around truck. I planned to do a little body work, paint her flat black, and use it around the house. But I have too many projects and not enough time. The original owner had the engine rebuilt in the mid to late 80’s. He continued to use the truck around his farm for a few more years, then he stopped farming and parked the truck in the early 90’s. Not many miles on the rebuild. The straight six 235 engine runs nice. The truck has a new battery, coil, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, points, and re-built starter. I changed the oil and flushed the radiator. I haven’t worked on the clutch yet. I believe some adjustments can be made so the gears won’t grind, but you should probably plan on a new clutch. Has a new wiring harness. I replaced the wheel bearings and seals, turned the brake drums, installed new shoes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, hoses, replaced some hard lines. Last week the brakes were bleeding down, so I have a air leak somewhere. You have to pump the pedal to get brakes. That being said, the truck is not drivable, but it would not take allot to get her ready. The gas tank needs to be removed and cleaned out. I have a temporary tank on her right now. Body -The front and rear fenders on the passenger side have dents and damage and will need to be replaced. Same with the running board. Fenders and running board on the driver side are decent condition. The cab floor is solid. Cab corners have a little rot, not as much as most old trucks. Some surface rust, but solid except as noted. Glass in driver door cracked, other glass is good. The bed had a steel plate installed over the original wood. A piece of angle attached the steel plate to the sides, but that weld is broken. I had planned to installed a sheetmetal angle along each side of the bed to reinforce this. The bed sides are straight and solid, need a little work near the tailgate. The tailgate needs replaced. The hood and front grille are in good condition. Passenger side door handle doesn’t work on the outside. Window crank mechanism on drivers side needs work or replacement. The rear bumper was replaced with steel angle; front bumper is in good condition but needs re-chromed. The seat was recovered in black vinyl at some point and is in good shape. Tires are new.
