FOR SALE: 1954 Chevrolet model 3600 3/4 Ton Pickup. No major modifications. Until very recently I was told by previous owner that this was a working ranch truck in the Lake Tahoe area. Receipts I found under front seat seem to support this as many of them were for lumber and hay in the Meeks Bay area. Floor Mounted 4-speed with granny gear and the 235 cu Inch "Thriftmaster" Six. Non-functional odometer shows over 26,000 so anyone's guess what actual mileage is. It must have relatively high rear-end gear ratio as 55 MPH is about what I was comfortable with. My hot-rod friend told me the front spindles had been welded and tie-rod shortened. If it was going to be driven on the freeway, I'd really suggest new spindles. Another pick-up aficionado told me it probably has 5.02 gears with the granny transmission. This baby starts right up and is ready to run errands all over town. NO power steering so don't expect it to turn like a Cadi. Brakes are excellent, all gauges except speedo/odometer work and the turn signals/lights/flashers are all operational. It has a heavy duty trailer hitch installed but I have not had the opportunity to tow anything with it. There appears to be no major rust but I haven't poked everywhere. The original wood bed has long ago worn away and was fixed ingeniously by cutting an oversize real estate for sale sign (Plywood) to fit the bed. I've hauled stuff in it and it works great. This is NOT a gem but a run-around truck. If you were planning to restore it to original you have lots of work to do. If you are looking for something to kick around in that won't let you down, this will do it nicely. Has been converted to 12V and I 'think" it also has electronic ignition but not sure. No Spare tire. Chip in front window inside as I think the rear view mirror used to be mounted mid-window and not above it where it is now. Chip doesn't hurt the front window. Both side windows roll up and down OK and the vent windows open also. After Market Radio with Cassette installed under dash & appears to work OK. I purchased the truck 2 months ago planning on turning it into a Rat Rod but my other vehicle now needs attention which costs $$$$. I've had a ball running it to the post office, Peets coffee and other places including night-time driving without worrying about Shopping carts dinging it or anything else like my other "shiny" car. If you know these 6 cylinder Chevy engines you also know they were built to keep going. You get nothing but thumbs up when you drive it and every worker who drives a pickup or those who have grey beards like me, want to talk to you....In California it's Registered thru November of this year and NO SMOG REQUIRED.. Added Note: I can probably make a short video of the truck running up and down the street, backing up etc for anyone serious thats out of the immediate area. Not a big problem. Want the new owner happy with the purchase but also realizing this is a 60 year old truck that evidently did a lot of hard work before retirement....
