Why we chose this custom 1984 Jeep CJ7 Laredo: Of course its extreme appearance has a lot to do with it but this Jeep just kept getting better the closer we looked. This expensive, high quality build overlooked nothing and quality like this is always an easy sell. One glance underneath and you can immediately see the frame was sand blasted and refinished and the entire underbody is Rhino-lined. Not only that but the fender wells, engine bay, firewall, inner-body and under the dash! New Mud-Terrain tires, killer Weld wheels and the winch looks like it's never been used. We were also amazed to see that big Holley 4-barrel sitting atop this torque monster in-line six. A flaming red beast put together by somebody who knows off-roading and knows Jeeps - seemed like a no brainer to us. Viva Las Vegas Automotive Boot Camp: Our 130 point inspection found a tight, drip free drive train and a functionally bullet proof vehicle. The stereo had no face plate so we installed a Jensen head unit with a 7-inch touch screen. Everything for a heater looks like it's in place under the dash but the hoses are not hooked up. Incidentals (like the horn, wipers and tach) are an easy fix if those things matter. (probably not on a ride like this) All it needs is gas and a really (really) steep hill. What was done to this custom restoration before we got it: An easier question is what was not done. Just about everything has been replaced and/or upgraded. This CJ-7 began life as a top-of-the-line Laredo and spent its early days in Kansas. The previous owner claims to have had receipts and documentation of the build but repeated attempts to get them have so far been unsuccessful. Doesn't matter; as you can plainly see, it would take a very thick folder to document this bad boy. What we've done to this inspired creation: Installed the aforementioned stereo, had our mechanic check the charging system, tightened the steering pitman arm and replaced the water pump. Re-detailed the undercarriage, gave it a good detail and took the pictures. Research/background about the Jeep CJ-7: If you've ever been on the road in a CJ, YJ or TJ you know it's rare when another Jeep driver does not wave when passing. These are old school American cult icons that were ready for the dirt right off the showroom floor. The aftermarket industry and enthusiast clubs, blogs and Jamborees is an enormous universe unto itself. Jeeps are hot commodities and it simply does not matter what year, what model or what condition. People like Jeeps; new ones, old ones and especially custom creations like this incredible (and expensive to build) off-road megalodon. Body/suspension lift gets everything up out of harms way and the 35-inch Mud-Terrain T/As are practically brand new. Looks fully capable of climbing over the occasional Taurus that happens in its way in this shot. AMC 20 rear end has Superior/Timken axles and an aluminum differential cover. Poison Spyder Rocker Knockers and a rock crawler rear bumper are powder coated and looking good. Looks like you could drive a Sentra under there and no ramps or jack needed for oil changes. Tilt steering with Grant GT wheel and fully carpeted interior. Corbeau A4 reclining racing seats fold forward for rear access. For those of you that have to ask...No, we do not have doors or a full top. If we did, you would have seen it already. Phase Linear UV10 Multimedia receiver with power flip-up 7-inch touch screen . . . . . . Jensen head unit has 2 USB ports, an ipod plug and is Bluetooth/Navigation/rear camera ready. 4.2 liter in-line 6 cylinder. (Holley 4-barrel, Clifford 6=8 aluminum intake, coated long tube header, MSD electronic ignition and new 3-row radiator) Spotless undercarriage with every nut, bolt, screw and washer replaced. Armored fuel tank, Flowmaster exhaust system and Rhino-lined underbody with acrylic enameled frame. Even the under dash area and both sides of the firewall were Rhino-lined. Fender wells Rhino-lined, all new fasteners used throughout and everything painted/powder coated/finished prior to reassembly. Warn Premium hubs and slotted front rotors. Superior/Timken rear axles and aluminum differential cover. Everything is painted, powder coated, new bolted and/or polyurethane bushed. Acrylic enameled frame and Poison Spyder Rocker Knocker protection bolted to body mount. Billet body lifts on polyurethane mounts and Rhino-lined underbody. J.K.S. sway bar disconnects allows full suspension articulation (front and rear) for extreme rock crawling applications.
