Vehicle Detail
1977 BMW R100RS, sexiest airhead ever, first year for the model!! and the first wind-tunnel designed motorcycle more pics here, sorry for the inside pics, snow piled up outside! http://kwc.smugmug.com/Other/R100RS/15641405_GF8Wu __________________________________________________ listing for an older gentleman who I know from my riding club own and ride the classic from every motorcycle coffee table book I would rate this bike as a very clean rider but not a show bike 72,132 miles, has the blue anodized brake calipers, spoked wheels but is not a 40mm bike ("big piper") side covers are the later model type which I prefer to the black "1000 cc" ones bike has been repainted with the correct color but with a single white pinstripe rather than the blue and with a glossier finish includes factory crash bars and BOTH the solo seat and the dual seat with the grab rails (both seats in great shape) carbs set and bike running strongly, fresh Westco battery with tender lead battery box replaced due to an old acid spill, tank has been Kreemed but not in response to a leak, precautionary Euro light switches on the bars and factory Krauser bags in great shape, tinted shield with a small crack near the mirror mufflers were replaced in 2003 bike has been lightly rear ended during previous owner's tenure, scraped a curb on the right underside then flopped on the left side and slid into a parking block on the left head, fairing was replaced with a good used one, drivetrain was checked over by BMW shop to make sure nothing was was amiss, it wasn't... the only remaining ill from the accident is some broken fins on the left head (shown in last pic) and a tiny ding in pipe at he head, no effect on function, there is also a flattening on the right header pipe under the bike, not visible except on a hoist rebuildable petcocks might need new gaskets at some point, bottom edge of tank has some rust colored stains but not anything that you could catch with a nail, and no tank leaks clock doesn't work but voltmeter does, good recent Dunlop rubber, good fork seals rear drive splines were rebuilt in 2004 last major service in December 2007, including BMW Inspection II, new cables, fuel lines, just oil changes since then receipts in hand back to 2003 has some airhead tools under the seat but doesn't have the OEM tool kit, air pump or manual clean IL title in hand bike is in Champaign, IL (central IL), I would prefer if you pick it up, but... I can ship for you, email me for details deposit of $200 thru Paypal due within 48 hours of auction close, non-refundable if you do not complete the sale balance of payment due within 14 days On Feb-06-11 at 06:50:45 PST, seller added the following information: ****** I have a short video of the bike running (cold start), if anyone wants to see it, please send me your direct email address ******On Feb-06-11 at 07:18:22 PST, seller added the following information: ******* or.....you can watch it on YouTube, here is the link ******* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALZVleZ-hpQ On Feb-06-11 at 18:53:47 PST, seller added the following information: NOTICE: looking more and more like this may be a 40mm bike (Big Piper), consulted some experts andf they are leaning that way (do your own research). The VIN: 6180534 is date of manufacture 12/76, many of the guys online with confirmed big pipers have serials in the 400s and manufacturing dates in 11/76 this one has NO "CFO" marking next to the engine number, the CFO bikes were 38mm and were stamped that way for California-Florida-Oregon the carbs are marked 94/40/106 so I assume they are 40mm the exhaust clamps are stamped 42 for 42 mm OD, according to airhead experts on the BMW MOA listserve, this is consistent with the 40mm exhaust there is between 1.0mm and zero gap between the header flange nuts and the pipe, which apparently is also diagnostic of the larger pipes On Feb-08-11 at 20:41:51 PST, seller added the following information: ......and the header pipes measure 40mm with a set of calipers
