Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is an original Classic 1970 Austin Mini Cooper S MKIII. This is the real cooper S not a wannabe !! The car will be 41 years old this year. Still beautiful and still running strong. This is the last production of the cooper S and possibly the lowest mileage in the US. VIN on title : XZD159895A VIN according to registration in England (MOT) & on car: XAD159895A. Engine number :12H397F-132 Engine was rebuilt in 1999 by Cornwall Engine Company in England (receipt included in the sale) Mileage : 25144 on odometer. Documentation on MOT (march 2001) shows the mileage is 15747. Judging from the condition of the body the mileage may be correct. It may be the lowest mileage cooper S. I have been restoring the car for the last two years. The car has been moved several times from one shopg to another. Many of the parts were missing during the move, and now they are replaced with new parts. The body is in excellent condition with no rust. I have not seen any classic mini with better condition than this. You have to see it to believe it. Original color Glacier white was repainted about two years ago. High quaility paint and paint job done by professional paint shop. The top has not been painted. There is an area that has a very small bubbles on the black paint. Engine runs well, no smoke from exhaust. Twin HS2 carbs with custom steel intake manifold. Still needs exhaust system from end of header to tailpipe. Gearbox works fine, clutch is good. Brakes are good. Wheels are minilite wrapped in Yokohama A008 165/70 R10. Three are in very good condition and still have the hair stubs on the side. One tire has a bulge and needs replaced. Spare wheel is original steel with michelin xzx. Electrical : All in working condition. Relays were installed for halogen headlight, air horn, electric fuel pump and future foglight. Wiper, heater, windshield washer are in working condition. New 85 amp alternator. Wiring has been modified to match the alternator and larger load of lightings. Interior : In very good condition. There is one rip at the back seat about 1" long. Looks like a razor cut. Original headliner is in good shape. Carpet worn out in some areas, but overall it is in good shape. Firewall was lined with soundproof material from the inside and outside. Beautiful aluminum & leather steering wheel is a Moto-Lita 13-1/2" diameter. New parts installed the last two years: New grill, new bumpers, new oil cooler, new halogen headlight, parking lights, front shock absorber, front suspension bushings, new windshield & seal, new hoses, new radiator, etc. Most of the receipt are documented. Documents go back to 1998 when the car was still in England. There are only a few minor things that still need to be done in order to make it a beatiful show car. Clear Washington title in my name. Has never been registered since I bought it. I have a scanned copy of the title if you want to see it. Has been driven only around the neighborhood. I have tried to describe the car in detail but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to send me an email with your questions. I also have alot more pictures. If you want to see more, send me your email address and I can send them to you. If you would like to see the Mini in person send me an email and we can arrange a time. Independent inspections are welcome. Please ask all questions before bidding! Serious bidders only, please! Payment must be received within 3 days of end of auction. We accept cash at time of pick up or wire transfer. If you chose to pay by cashiers check, you will need to overnight it. Shipping is the full responsibility of the buyer. Thanks! On Jan-27-11 at 10:30:24 PST, seller added the following information: Answer to your questions : Engine : oil pressure at 90 when cold, gradually goes down to around 45 at 1000 RPM when it warms up. Increases as RPM is increased.Temperature is within operating range. About a notch above the mark on the gauge. Never overheat. New thermostat & radiator. Gearbox : No issues. Shifter is crisp, not wobbly. I installed a new end bushing on the shifter. Rear suspension : Adjustable ride height kit is installed. Exterior : I have the right side door mirror, but missing the plastic base. I will install it if I find the base. Missing left seam cover (in front of left door) at the paint shop. If found I will install it. On Jan-27-11 at 13:11:08 PST, seller added the following information: Suspension : this is a dry suspension car. Not hydrolastic. Front suspension is standard, rear is adjustable. Wiring partially upgraded, added and modified to be compatible with modern 85 amp alternator, halogen headlights, and future stereo system. All new wires are numbered and documented. I will include the modified wiring diagram to the future owner. Alloy wheels : minilite 10X5 Paint : New, high quality glasurit base coat & clear coat, painted in heated paintbooth. Rear area, inner area, trunk area, undercariage area, wheel wells, were not painted during restoration. It is still the original factory paint. Has not seen any rain since painted. There are two small scratches that I am aware. One is on top of left front fender, and the other on front left hood.. It happen when a friend attempted to install the hood. It is all still white and can be touch up with a touch up pen, but I have not found that will match the glacier white color. I took photos of the scratches but they do not show on the photos. On Jan-29-11 at 13:55:22 PST, seller added the following information: Battery : New battery 800 cca was installed a few days ago. Larger cca and capacity is installed to match the 85 amp alternator and future electrical add-ons. Lighting, interior: There is a blue neon light under each front seats. You cannot see the lights unless you peek underneath the seat. The control box is connected to the interior light and door switch. It really looks nice at night. The car has been restored to as original as possible with some personalization from my children and I. The neon lighting, air horn, halogen lights, LEDs, alternator are non original item. They are non permanent and can be removed. On Jan-29-11 at 14:18:37 PST, seller added the following information: Yes, you can drive it home if you do not mind the exhaust sound. If you have to drive it accross the state, I advise that you install a muffler at the local muffler shop or install it yourself with the kit from Moss or Minimania. They sell quality stainless steel exhaust system.. Or get an ear plug. I do not have time to install it due to my work overseas.
