Vehicle Detail
1961 Chrysler NewportNo Reserve Up for bid is my '61 Chrysler, with a 361 V8, and push-button Torqueflite automatic transmission. I have owned this car for many years, and she's always been a reliable car. She runs and drives well, and has always received compliments where ever I go. It seems when every other car I've got breaks down, the Chrysler is always ready to go. Mechanically, the car is good, the last major component replaced was I had the radiator re-cored in September of 2009. There is a slight vibration between 25 and 35 mph, which I believe is in the transmission, as I replaced the u-joints years ago, hoping this would cure it, but it didn't. Again, the vibration is slight, and hasn't changed or gotten any worse over the years, but I do want to disclose all faults. The odometer doesn't work, although the speedometer does, and the dash doesn't light up any more. All other gauges and switches work fine. The brakes work well, as well as the power steering and parking brake. She runs and drives very comfortably. The body wears most of the original paint, however, there are some amateur patches on the lower rear quarters from many years ago that is coming back through. The rockers are solid, as well as fenders and trunk lid. There is a hole on the hood, about the size of a pencil eraser, not sure how that happened, as the rest of the hood is solid. The floor boards look good from the underside, although I have not looked under the carpet. The worst rust is the trunk floor, which does have some holes and bad spots. The trunk rim, however, is fine, just the floor is bad. The windows have trouble staying on their tracks sometimes when you roll them down, and require some coaxing to get back up. The chrome is fair, there is some hazing on the rear bumper, but no major pitting or flaws. There are a few nicks in the trim, and the front bumper is pointing south on the passenger side, as well as a broken turn signal lens. The driver side taillight lens is cracked. The grille is actually a '62 Chrysler, I've still got the original '61, but it is bent. Also, the hubcaps are '57 Plymouth, and the tires are old port-a-walls, and would need replacing for everyday use. The seats are good, the front seat was recovered at some point long ago, not quite a match to the original, but close. The rear seat still sports the original fabric, as well as the door panels, which are all in decent shape. The carpet is worn out, and the headliner is stained and has some rips. The steering wheel is nice, as well as all the controls, however the dash padding was removed and replaced with some sort of vinyl adhesive years ago. She has old aftermarket lap seatbelts in the front. Overall, she's a fine car, but by no means a show car. If you want any closeup photos or have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm offering her at no reserve, but am selling her locally, so I reserve the right to cancel the auction. She's located just north of Macon, Georgia. Thanks for looking.
