Vehicle Detail

Overall AMC AMX Background History The AMC AMX debuted on Feb. 24, 1968, as a mid 1968 model. It was the first steel-bodied, two seat American production model since the 1957 Ford Thunderbird. American Motors created the AMX (American Motors Experimental) by slicing a foot out of its Javelin body, eliminating the rear seat, and making it a true two seat sports car. The AMX's full second model year saw only slight changes. The five spoke Magnum 500 steel road wheels were no longer chrome plated, but now came with a stainless steel trim ring. (The original date coded rims are included in the auction). The interior featured a revised instrumentation with the tachometer moved to match the speedometer that was now calibrated to 140 mph (225 km/h). Interior door panels were revised and leather upholstery was optional. Later production cars received a hood over the instruments in front of the driver. This AMC AMX Background History I purchased this AMX (Along with a few others vehicles which I have already sold) from the estate of a local car collector when he passed away. This collector had over three hundred cars at the time of his passing and only collected the very rare and unique vehicles. This AMX looks to have been taken apart in 1982 for paint (I have based this on the newspapers lining the boxes of the parts removed from the car for paint) I have a copy of the title from South Carolina signed off by the owner at that same timeframe. The vehicle is now in my name free and clear with a Florida title. This car was completely stripped for paint except they didn’t remove the motor? (I have no idea as to why they didn’t remove the motor and paint the whole car at that same time) but after 30 plus years the car really should be repainted again anyhow as it has acquired some small dents here and there (None larger than a nickel) but there is basically very little rust or body filler on this vehicle anywhere. That’s was the main reason as to why I kept the car for years as I really wanted to restore it to its original glory and I knew I would never be able to find another AMX with a body so rust and filler free as this car. Let me make myself clear, the car has been in indoor storage for 30 plus years it will need to be “completely” looked over and gone through but I could not even begin to think you would find a better starting point than this car. Mechanicals This 1969 AMC AMX “Go Pack” edition comes equipped with the correct original 390 cid V8 rated at 315 bhp. I have no idea as to what is wrong with the motor but it is seized, it could be from simply sitting for 30 plus years but I truly have no idea. It was that way when I purchased it. My intention was to pull the motor and go through it completely at the time of restoration anyhow. It does have fluids in it. The motor looks to be complete with all tags on valve covers and carburetor etc… It does not seem to be missing any items at all. I did buy a brand new radiator for it to be included. The transmission is the optional center console mounted three-speed automatic. I am assuming it is the original tranny as well. It has fluids in it and seems to function properly as much as I can try. There are no brake calipers and I would assume from sitting this long you could pretty well say you would go through all of the brakes anyhow. A company named skybird makes conversion kits for these vehicles for the disc brakes that are very reasonably priced. (I have the information and will include with the car). I would assume you would need to drop the gas tank and clean it as well. Body Like I mentioned earlier, this car is basically rust and filler free. It is the main reason why you should purchase this vehicle above others. It is amazing how clean this car is and if at all possible you should come see in person before auction ends (or send an inspector) as it is that extremely solid. You will not be disappointed. I have laid out all of the trim pieces and do not have anything missing as far as I could tell. The chrome strip across the front of the hood which is so rare to find is still in the factory AMC NOS packaging. The bumpers will clean up fine but I would re-chrome eventually if I was restoring this car. The door windows will need to be re-installed as they were removed for paint as well. All new emblems are included. Interior I have looked over all of the parts and I cannot see anything that is missing except for a carpet kit. The seats seem to be in fine working order but will need to be recovered (Legendary seat covers are included in a unopened box that came with the car when I purchased it) Now keep in mind if I was restoring the car I would be re-dying certain trim pieces and or painting them to give it that new look but as far as I can tell no trim is missing. The console is not cracked, nor is the dash, the number on the dash is 11656 and the mileage listed on the odometer is 52,375 and even though I truly believe it is the original miles since the car has sat for 30 plus years in this form, I cannot state that for a fact. There are two sets of door panels that “could” be used if so desired but I was planning on purchasing new door panels from Legendary interiors. The door tag from the drivers door was removed during paint and was never with the car since I purchased it “but” I did find a reproduction door tag that is not stamped that will be included with the purchase for you to stamp. MISSING ITEMS (These are items that I know it is missing) · Front Windshield · A complete rubber kit will be needed for doors/windows · Brakes · Carpet Kit Please contact me at my email address listed below for any other photo's you may like to see, I do not have access to put the car on a lift to get shots from underneath. Overall Again I cannot stress enough how basically rust free this car is and I really recommend anyone to come see the car in person if at all possible. With the vehicle in its present state I would recommend a complete restoration to this car since it is so rare but if you wanted you simply could put it back together, get it running and drive it that way it is if you like? It is a car that has been sitting and apart for thirty plus years, I know there is duplicates of some parts and there “could” be some parts missing that I didn’t mention but if that is the case it simply was human error as I truly did look everything over approximately three times to search for anything missing and the items listed above are the only items I came up with that I know it doesn’t have. On Jan-19-11 at 12:29:15 PST, seller added the following information: Update on 01-19-2011: Thank you all for the overwhelming interest in this car, I made a mistake in the description when I said Skybird makes a conversion kit for the brakes, it was meant to say "Scarebird" makes a conversion kit for the brakes. You can find them on this auction site or do a google search.
