"5.0" Mustangs, specifically the redesigned 1987-93 version were/are a hot rodder's dream come true. Ford's throaty 302 pony became an instant street legend during the power-challenged 80's and is (or has been) arguably the most modified American performance car in recent memory. These things are usually snapped up the instant they become available and the car everybody wants is in exactly the condition you see with this incredibly low mileage LX. It's a 1990 HO automatic convertible with an honest 72,287 original miles and the go-fast boys have never touched a wrench to it. That's it; this is a completely bone stock LX 5.0 convertible. But wait, there's more! What we thought was just a one-chance-in-a-million-find, dark green survivor turns out to be a 1 of 4,103 limited edition, 7-Up promotional vehicle. They were going to give these away to lucky basketball fans who could sink a shot from center court. The contest was canceled but "7-Up car" production was not. Viva Las Vegas Automotive Boot Camp: Lots of good news with this untouched gem; the car has never been hit but there is a very slight crease just behind the fuel door that can't be seen from eye level. The paint is great except for some fading at the corners by the headlights, top of the front bumper and the top of each exterior mirror. We fixed the paint issues but left the crease because honestly, it's so slight the car won't sell for a dime more if we fix it. The tires were not worn but they were aged so we replaced those and when we put it in the air there were a few leaks in the exhaust system so we replaced everything from the cats, back. The top looks really good for its age and its function is flawless. Other than that, all the fluids checked out and everything was mechanically sound, the car just basically needed a good cleaning. What was done to this car before we got it: Nothing. That's what is so awesome about this car. Obviously it's been taken care of but mostly, this Mustang has done a lot of sitting over the years. It is an unmodified, completely original LX 5.0 Mustang convertible. What we've done this car: New tires, had the body shop take care of the sun faded areas around the headlights, the front bumper and the exterior mirrors and we replaced the exhaust system from the cats back.. We steam cleaned the undercarriage and gave it a good detail and that's it. Research/background, what was said about the Mustang V8 when new, what people are saying now: The Fox-bod community can be a fiercely loyal bunch and there are a lot of them. The culture around these Mustangs has been around a long time. Parts availability and support for this car is vast and you're going to have to get used to saying no every time somebody asked you if you want to sell your car. Convertible LX Mustangs came with this deck lid rack and unlike the GT, the LX 5.0 had stainless exhaust tips. The GT wheels were part of the 7-Up package. (straight body down the side) As you can see, panel fit is superb and the paint looks aesome. 72,289 original miles on a 21 year old Mustang 5.0. (amazing) Leather interior and this car has the articulating sport bucket seats. Power lumbar and the outer bolster has one of the few flaws there are in this interior. 5.0 Liter EFI HO V8 225 horsepower @ 4,200/300 ft-lb torque @ 3,200 RPM Brand new Kumho tires. It looked about like this the day it was made. Steam cleaned and we replaced the exhaust system from the cats back, keeping the original tips.
