Vehicle Detail
I am the second owner of this unbelievable original unrestored 1959 Cadillac. I purchased this from the original owner in July of 2007. The car was located in New Berlin Wis. It was never driven in winter or bad weather and had just turned 52,000 miles when I purchased it. I had received pictures of the car and could see there were no signs of rust and very little road grime on the under carriege, with the original frame manufacturers stencil still visable. I flew to Wis. and drove the car back home to California. This vehicle in my estimation is probably one of the nicest original unrestores 1959 Cadillacs available. This car has never been smoked in, all ash trays and lighters have never been used. The interior shows very little use with no tears or cracks. The dash has no cracking, but does have a little puckering around gauge cluster due to shrinkage of the foam backing. There are two small slightly sun discolored spots on the very ends of the raised support on the back of the front seat. The original factory blue floor mats have been replaced with authorized reproduction black froor mats. I still have the originals, but they are deteriorating and show discoloration. The original owner installed Stewart Warner gauges for oil pressure and generator amperage immediately after purchasing the car. Those original period gauges are still working along with windshild wipers. The radio still works along with the power antenna. The original clock worked intermittantly, so I had it restored. I sent it to be restored twice and still ended up with a clock that worked intermittantly. I purchased another original 1959 clock and sent it to another shop to be quartzed. That clock is now in the car with original still kept available. The windows and door locks are manual and easily maintained. The exterior paint and chrome are still original and very nice. There are a few small rock chips and dings here and there from use over it's 52 years. There is one very small dent that is only visable from under the car, it is located where the driver side rear fender covers the frame. All chrome and stainless are like new with the exception of some minor pitting on the rear bumper. The car had been kept in a heated garage, but due to it's length was very close to the garage door, which was not insulated. The engine compartment is all original with the only change being the addition of a surge tank to avoid wasting coolant from expansion when the engine is turned off in the summer. The engine does drip a couple of drops of oil when sitting for a period of time, not enough to do anything about. The trunk is still original with the original oil cloth type covering. I have done some needed maintainance that required some new parts. The tires were changed by the original owner prior to my purchase. I replaced the original brake wheel cylinders along with the master cylinger. I had new original mufflers, resonators and tail pipes installed. The distributor points were changed out to electronic to allow the engine to be tuned for the use of the current gasoline. Lead substitute is added along with octane booster and fuel stabilizer to keep the gas from breaking down. Along with the unbelievable condition in which this car has been maintained, the books and paper work are just as good. I have all the original papers and books, window sticker, bill of sale, owners manual, owners Protection policy (warranty/service) book, accessories booklet, a June 1978 recall letter for the pitman arm, shop manual, complete service bulletins, carburetor service manual, and original sales brochure. All are original and in mint condition. Take a look at the pictures I have taken and you will see this car is beyond my discription. If you were to restore a car to this condition you would pay three times what I expect to get and still not have an original and all the papers to go with it. This car drives and rides as well as it looks. You will have no problem driving it home (no matter where you live). This looks like a 5 year old car, not a 52 year old car. It has been shown in a few shows and always received awards. Awards of particular note were the Hwy 99 car show and the Fathers Day Classic at Pismo Beach.
