Vehicle Detail
UPDATE 1/8/11: I am re-listing my Rampage because the previous auction winner tried to scam me. For this reason, I must now insist upon a $500 deposit from the winning bidder. Also, I reserve the right to refuse bids from anyone with a sketchy bid history, or who I feel would not give this great old vehicle the good home it deserves. Sorry for being this way, but I love this vehicle and hate being scammed. ORIGINAL LISTING: This is a great opportunity to own and drive a rare piece of American history - the Dodge Rampage was only manufactured for three years (1982-84). This 1984 model has been lovingly cared for and has only 120,000 miles on it. I am the third owner, and this vehicle has spent its entire life in North Carolina and Kentucky and was never smoked in. This vehicle is currently licensed and drivable, and is remarkably rust-free. Rampages were notorious for rust on the undercarriage, floor pans, and shock towers, but this one has no rust in any of those areas. The original red paint is getting thin in spots, but the body is in remarkable shape with no rust except for a tiny spot behind the driver-side door. It still has most of the original parts, including the original engine and transmission, original Chrysler radio/cassette deck, original tonneau cover, original wheels, original jack/tire tools, and the original owner's manual. Now, this is a 27-year old vehicle, so there are a few issues with it. I will list all the problems I am aware of, so you can bid with confidence. The engine runs well once it's warmed up, but like many old carbureted engines it takes a little bit of cranking to get it started. You also need to keep up the rpm for the first few minutes after start-up or the engine will shut off. You have to use Premium (93 octane) gasoline or the engine will knock when shut-off. There is a very small external coolant leak on the engine, but it's not internal because I've never seen evidence of coolant in the engine oil. There is a slow drain in the electrical system, so if the vehicle will sit unstarted for more than about a week the battery should be unhooked. Other minor issues: the turn signal stalk does not stay down when signaling left turns (you have to hold it down until you're done with your turn). The door locks do not unlock from the outside, so this vehicle cannot be locked until they are fixed. The passenger-side exterior door handle is also broken. thus this door can only be opened from the inside, and the driver-side exterior door handle feels like it might break soon. The vehicle includes a new matching set of door handles ready to be installed. The driver's seat and center console have some tears in the upholstery, due to their age, and some interior upholstery is a bit sun-faded. The heater and defroster work, but slowly. Air-conditioning has never worked during the six years I owned the vehicle, and I never tried to get it to work, but it appears that the compressor is in good condition. Even with these minor problems, this vehicle is in remarkable shape. It is drivable as-is, and with a little TLC could be either a daily driver or even a show vehicle. I am reluctantly selling this because I no longer have the garage space or the time to give this beautiful rare American original the attention it deserves. Start off 2011 with a fun vehicle that's sure to turn heads! Please contact me if you have any questions before you bid; please do not wait until after bidding to ask questions. Vehicle is in Lexington, KY and if you can make it here to see it in-person before bidding you are welcome to do so. Good luck!
