Especially today, the bulbous design gives this Airflyte Ambassador Super celebrity star power few vehicles can match. Park this hump-rumped beauty in a field of new Ferraris and see where the crowd gathers. This is art in motion, and therein lies the real vintage car value that makes this particular tub such an easy sell. Motion, as in; this is an extremely easy classic car to drive and enjoy. Unlike a lot of round cars from this period, this Nash starts immediately and gets down the road with surprising confidence. Some of the credit for these modern day manners has to go to the 4-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. With a smooth running engine, new radials and a rebuilt front end/steering system, this Nash handles today's traffic with no problem. Like all valuable survivors this Airflyte Ambassador has a story. A few years back, an old gentleman in Idaho set out to make his Nash dreams a rolling reality. With help from his kids and four donor cars, the project progressed to the stunning driver quality beauty seen here now. The father's (now 80 years old) health began to deteriorate before some minor finishing touches were completed but he did get to see his dream make the January, 2005 cover of Nash Times magazine (Volume 36, No.1). This superb car would be right at home at any local show with the added fun of arriving there under its own power. No overheating issues that we encountered, the suspension and steering feel tight and all exterior hardware function is good. The paint is great and the body is very straight. Most of the exterior bright work looks awesome and the re-chromed rear bumper looks spectacular. Inside, you'll find new floor carpet, headliner and seat upholstery and the pièce de résistance; Twin Convertible Beds. This highly touted feature, combined with the most cavernous interior you've ever seen, gave all full-size Nash's the dubious honor of being the make-out car of choice among hormone afflicted teenagers during the fifties. Very rarely do these milestone classics become available (especially in this condition) and this 1950 Nash Airflyte Ambassador Super drives as good as it looks. Some celebrities from the fifties can still turn heads. Get ready to be noticed. This Ambassador Super has all the options and equipment of the more expensive Custom series. (options like carpet, clock, turn signals and a twin convertible bed, among other things) Items like a curved one-piece windshield and uni-body construction put the Nash years ahead of the competition in 1950. Wow! What a shape, what a grille and what an expression of art-deco design. Straight body and good paint will make this Nash a hit at any local car show. This Ambassador Super was manufactured at Nash's El Segundo plant, we think around September or October of 1949. New radials all around give this Airflyte Ambassador a solid, confident feel on the road. Rear bumper re-chromed and looking awesome. Tail lights work and so do the optional (!) directional signals. (looking pretty straight down the side of this big boy, too) Panel fit is good, windows all roll up/down and all exterior hardware works great. Seats, carpet, door panels and headliner all redone and looking good. Seat moves forward and back as it should and it also does this . . . . . . converts into a completely flat twin bed that made this Nash the perfect place for a 50s teenage couple to get into trouble. Bullet shaped "Uniscope" instrument cluster. (speedometer works, odometer does not, the other gauges seem to work too) Turn on ignition and simply lift shifter to start engine. (transmission goes into park when shifter is moved to the reverse position after engine shut-down) "Dash Locker" chrome cover closes ala roll-top desk. Large trunk is re-carpeted and has matching full size spare. 234 Cubic Inch Inline 6 Cylinder 115 horsepower @ 3,400/210 ft-lb torque @ 1,600 RPM We just sprayed it off and took the picture. Clean, honest undercarriage with no nasty surprises.
