Great example of a California 1959 VW Single Cab. Please review all photos. I will attempt to describe and provide photos for all areas. These trucks are becoming very rare. Many were purchased for low cost utility vehicles and were used as that. We have owned for a couple of years and I have done as much as possible to insure its usage as a very reliable daily driver and also have a very clean look. My wife has used this mostly as a transport at local farmer market's to sell her wares. The pedigree of the vehicle was started in California. It was used by a guy's grandfather in his business and then restored about 5 years ago by the grandson. Since purchasing I have done a considerable amount of upgrades and replacements. My personality is extremely detailed and I have attempted use all quality parts and knowledge. I will attempt to list most of these. All work was completed 6 months ago (900 miles past) Brand new motor 1760 stroker built using all new parts. New heads were built by Steve Timms of Peformance Workshop of Riverside, CA. The motor was built by Rodney Cooper (Airhead Parts tech mechanic and local VW guru) and myself. Aluminum case, new crankshaft and german pistons. Replaced or powder coated most engine tin. Rebuilt dual Kadrons. All new fuel lines, belt, and filters. Electronic ignition added. Deep sump oil pan added with remote bypass oil filter. The transmission was removed and rebuilt by Kevin at KCR Transmissions in Riverside. Kevin is considered the one of the top rebuilders in the nation. The reduction gear boxes were also rebuilt. He included the most effective gearing to provide an easy 65 mph freeway cruising. Also replaced with new clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel. Replaced all brake pads, springs , master cylinder, and all rear brake lines. All brake drums are freshly turned. All other cables were replaced, emergency, heater box controls, clutch cable and bowden tube, and accelerator. Speedometer was professionally rebuit by Orange County Speedometer and the cable was also replaced. Installed a new cassette stereo and fosgate speakers with out cutting into dash. Overall interior is simple but very clean. No gas guage as it was not a feature in 1959. I did not want to cut into the dash so I will include my old school guage, a three foot stick with tank markings. Includes a fuctioning reserve that allows 1 gallon of reserve to be activated if ever needed. Uses premium fuel only. All front tie rods and steering drag link has been replaced and alignment completed at that time. Steering box rarely leaks but I am told that is very common. 15 " Tires are in new condition (maybe 1500 miles). Treasure chest is in near mint conditon. Spare tire and VW hjack included. Original round side mirrors, 2 church keys, manuals and many many spare parts included. Safari windows are an excellent alternative to air conditioning unless you live in the Mojave. Truck bed is in awesome shape and the oak slats were removed, sanded, and tung oiled. I elected to use stainless steel screws instead of riviting. I have installed a professionally rebuilt wiper motor and all correct linkage and switch. All light bulbs were replaced and functioning. Includes rear glass lenses. Flanged heater boxes (ghost gray), header, and exhaust have been ceramic coated 6 months ago. My intended next project was the underside of the front half. Please view photos. Not neccesary, but will leave to the next owner. Exterior paint is in near excellent condition. There is some minor bubbling under front bumper area and some minor cracking in tailgate areas only.
