1966 Volkswagon Kamper-Kits Camper Van With deep regret I am having to sell my family's 1966 Volkswagon. My parents purchased this new in Santa Cruz, California from Bob Lewis Volkswagon.I still have a lot of the original paperwork for this van. My van was complete and running when my tired 1600 motor went south about 4 years ago. I decided to do a complete restore. The motor is a new duel port 1600 with a new case, new pistons, new barrels, new heads. etc. It has been balanced and has a 3 angle valve job on the heads. It has a type 4 oil cooler with a doghouse for extra cooling. Extra care has been done for the powdercoated engine compartment to look like it came from the factory. At the time I had new clutch and the brakes done. I had a s.w. temp gauge wired in.The paint job was complete and turned out very nice. It was supposed to take 3 months and took a lot longer and was more expensive. The interior was removed to have the woodwork redone. I paid a "friend " $1000 who was a cabinet maker to copy the woodwork when it was pulled at the paint shop. Now he and my money is gone. I have the old cabinets and most of the wood paneling. It was complete when it was pulled. It is worn because it was a camper. The seats and curtains were done by a great shop in Watsonville, California and are in good shape considering that they are about 8 years old. They and most of the rest of the interior has been in my garage for about 2 years. There are a lot of extras that go with the van. I have an old metal roof rack that was painted with the van.I have one of the old "circus" tents that attach to the outside of the van. My dad bought it new in the 70's and it never made it out of the box. I have another old canvas roof rack form the 60's that would need new canvas. I live about 35 minutes from the California border and I welcome inspections. Please ask questions. Please be serious if you bid. I spent over $2500 on the motor and $3500 on the paint alone. The estimate to have the entire interior woodwork redone was about $3000 from high-end cabinet shop. I don't that have that kind of money anymore and have bills to pay.On Dec-14-10 at 11:55:55 PST, seller added the following information: Hello everyone. Thanks for the great reponses on my VW. I have tried to snap a few more pictures because I have had several requests. I am sorry for the quality of the new photos but it is storming now and I don't want to pull the van out of it's garage. Most of the questions I have received are asking about rust issues and if there weren't rust issues or major damage why the paint bill was so much. My original intentions with this van when I had the paint done was turning it into a show only vehicle so there are 3 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear with a mirror finish when it was buffed out. Now that was two years ago and the van has been sitting in a garage. As for rust I have tried to take a coupla of pictures of underneath the van so that everyone can see that this California van was garaged and has very minimal rust anywhere underneath. When the paint was done the rubbers were replaced on the side windows and the front windows but it looks like they didn't replace the one on the back. Why ?. I don't know. But someone had asked about the window rubbers. I hope I have answered everyone questions if not keep asking and I will try and reply. Thanks Tim
