CLASSIC CARS LTD. ___________________________________________ Beautiful in Classic Wimbledon White / Black Interior & Convertible Top Documented ONE Owner California Car! Cost No Object Maintenance & Care for Close to 45 Years!! _______________________________________ FORD MUSTANG - HISTORY First conceived by Ford product manager Donald N. Frey and championed by Ford Division general manager Lee Iacocca, the Mustang prototype was a two-seat, mid-engine roadster. This would later be remodeled as a four-seat car penned by David Ash and John Oros in Ford's Lincoln-Mercury Division design studios, which produced the winning design in an intramural design contest suggested by Iacocca. When introduced in April, 1964 the Mustang caused quite a stir. The car was designed by Ford to compete with sports cars of Chevrolet, Dodge, Chrysler and Plymouth in the market for affordable sports cars with a wide range of power. The first Mustang had three engine choices ranging from a small, six cylinder engine producing just over 100 horsepower, to larger horsepower V-8 engines with various horsepower ratings. Also available were a variety of transmission options including three speed manual, automatic, and the most sought after 4-speed manual transmission. In the early years of the Ford Mustang, the car was only available as a Coupe or convertible. When first introduced, $2400.00 would buy a standard Mustang and for twice that amount you could purchase a top-of-the-line car with upgraded interior, exterior trim and larger V-8 engine. The Mustang was so successful that the car sold 22,000 units on the first day and over 100,000 cars were sold within the first four months. Nearly 20,000 Mustangs were sold by the end of the first year and by 1966 the one millionth Mustang had rolled out of Dearborn Michigan. 1966 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE / SPECIFICATIONS Wheelbase: 108 in. In 1966 this particular Mustang (in convertible form) represented just over 9% of the total Mustang production and even in "the day" was a desirable version of the Ford Mustang. Other statistics of interest about this particular Mustang include: - The Mustang's original cost (in 1966) was a whopping $2,652.00 - Options on this 1966 Mustang include: o Upgraded engine + $159.00 o Power top + $53.00 o 14" wheels + o Whitewall tires + THIS PARTIUCLAR 1966 FORD MUSTANG - HISTORY It is increasingly difficult to locate a true, documented one owner, collectible Mustang but this is such a car. This Mustang has led an "Easy California Life" and has been fastidiously well cared for by its owner. Specifically, the proud owner took delivery of the Mustang on 5/24/66, within a few weeks of its production at the Ford assembly plant on 5/19/66 in San Jose, California. The Mustang's ownership is documented by the cars original factory owner's manual and remains licensed and registered to its first owner after almost 45 years. The car carries personalized license plates reading "Trim 66" but, of course, was originally issued the original black / yellow California plates when it was new in 1966. While the actual mileage on the Mustang is unknown, the owner indicates that the odometer has been over and that the current reading of 24,361 is not the original mileage reading. However, an inspection of the car would certainly support a low mileage reading based on the high level of care that the car has received from its one and only owner. Frankly, it is refreshing (and unusual) to see a car that has been this well cared for after 44+ years. While the Mustang has always been very well maintained and using a "Cost No Object" philosophy, during the past several years its mature owner has used the car less and less and has finally decided to part with the Mustang. It is important to note that while the car has been strictly a fair weather car (in Santa Barbara where they enjoy 300+ days of sun each year); it has never been stored for prolonged periods of time or ignored from a maintenance perspective. Of course, the car has always been garaged when not in use. The following represents some of the important points relative to the car's history / life in California: ? Delivered in Southern California & remained in the state for its entire life ? Currently issued personalized plated reading "Trim66" - Was originally a California "Black Plate" car ? Current registration documents coincide with the "delivered to" name in the factory issued Owner's Manual (1966) ? Original (not reproduction) Ford Mustang Owner's Manual including information reflecting delivery to the one and only owner ? Factory original manual floor mounted transmission ? Cosmetically and mechanically restored to beautiful original / stock configuration COSMETIC CONDITION - BODY / PAINT / TOP The Mustang convertible is finished in the lovely shade of "Wimbledon White", an especially attractive color on a convertible and in contrast with the black interior / black convertible top. Unlike some of the "flashy" colors from the 1960's, this car has an elegant, understated look that is well received by virtually everyone that sees the Mustang. To say that this car has been babied for its entire life would be a dramatic understatement. This Mustang convertible has the appearance of a well cared vehicle that is just a few years old. The paint is in excellent condition, with a beautiful shine and is free from orange peel, fading or other flaws. The car has had the benefit of one complete, high quality re-paint in its factory original color of Wimbledon White (as documented on the door trim tag). When the car was repainted, much of the trim was removed (and replaced as needed) and, as a result, there is no overspray on any part of the car. Even a close critical examination of the paint / body reveals there are no major issues with the paint/body and clearly reflects the excellent care that this California car received by its elderly owner for the large majority of its life in dry, "rust free" California. The undercarriage inspection by an independent professional (refer to photos) reveals a totally straight, damage free chassis and a very solid underbody. There are no signs of undercarriage structural damage. The only area of minor rust is a small section where water accumulated on the rear driver's side. This section was patched / repaired and has not spread in many, many years. As the photos reflect, the critical areas that typically rust on the older Mustangs are in very good condition. As the photos reflect, this Mustang has a completely damage free body. Any minor flaws / imperfections are just that, minor. In fact, it takes a very critical assessment of the body to seek out the minor imperfections that are inherent on even the nicest vehicles that are used on the street. However, any minor chips, scratches and flaws are difficult to spot and, frankly, would be unnoticeable to the vast majority of the prospective buyers. It is important to note, however, that the car is totally free from any major dents, dings or damage on the body, bumpers and exterior trim. The Mustang convertible is a striking car and we are continually asked if the car underwent a recent restoration. The panel fit, including the doors, trunk, and hood are excellent, especially for a 1966 Mustang convertible. The doors close solidly, line up well and close with a solid "thud" and are totally free from the "sagging" that can exist, especially on 1960's vintage convertibles. The trunk and hood are well aligned considering the vintage of the vehicle and both open and close properly. The trunk also seals well having had the benefit of new seals when the car was repainted and has a fully functional lock (with two sets of keys included). The front hood and trunk have never been forced closed on any objects, so there are no dents in either panel. Both trunk and hood stay open as a result of proper ongoing maintenance. The remaining exterior trim on the car is equally as good as the paint and body. The front and rear bumpers have no damage and the chrome is in beautiful condition. The other exterior trim (chrome and otherwise) is in excellent condition and free from excessive / noticeable wear / damage. This car clearly reflects its "suburban" environment and occasional use since it is totally free from door dings and other parking rash that we see on urban vehicles. The Mustang is fitted with a power top option (switch mounted below the left side of the steering wheel) that is fully functional. The top frame is in excellent condition and raises and lowers the top as designed. The top is in excellent condition and looks like new. It is free from any signs of wear and tear, rips and is fitted with a glass rear window.a very nice upgrade! The front windshield is in very good condition with no cracks, stars or chips. The car is fitted with the old style (correct for the era), aluminum windshield wipers and arms. The remaining window glass is excellent with no damage, cracks or stars. INTERIOR The interior on the Mustang is in absolutely beautiful condition and consistent with the condition of the exterior. The Mustang's interior is virtually 100% stock with the exception of an upgraded in-dash (in the stock location and including improved speakers). Of course, the interior has received the benefit of restoration and remains in fantastic condition. The interior is finished in materials that are period correct and is all black with chrome / silver trim. The insets of the seats are cloth resulting is a "cool ride" on those warm days when the top is down. The carpeting, dash, seats, door panels, and all other interior items are all original style and in excellent condition. The seats show virtually no wear and are in excellent structural condition. There are no rips, tears or cracks on any of the interior panels, or dash. Even the driver's side seat bolster shows no wear, tear or damage. Because of the limited use of the Mustang by its careful owner's, the interior does not show the usually wear seen on your average Mustang, especially a Mustang convertible that is typically exposed to the sun and can have faded panels, cracked dash, split seats, etc. Additionally, we often see Mustang convertibles that have been heavily modified with engine changes, incorrect wheels, incorrect steering wheels and even body modifications (wheel well flares, etc). Not so with this car. The dash is totally free from any sun wear or cracks. The gauges are all original and functional, and the lenses are clear, not cracked, or damaged. The gauges all read within acceptable ranges. The current reading on the odometer is 24,361 and the car can be expected to have up to 100 additional miles before its sale (as a result of showing the car to local, prospective buyers). The rear cargo seating area, carpeting and panels are also in excellent condition. As produced in 1966, the Mustang was not fitted with seat belts. However, front lap belts have been added to this car for safety. The carpeting is excellent front and back. MECHANICAL CONDITION The Mustang has been very well cared for its entire life. The owner has retained most of the records and the car will go to its new owner with a large folder of documentation. While space (and time!) prevents us from listing the repair history over the course of some 45 years, the Mustang was its owners "Pride & Joy" and it was never neglected mechanically or cosmetically. Any time his long time mechanic made recommendations for repairs; they were acted on regardless of the cost associated with the repairs / maintenance. We will be receiving the detailed maintenance folder within a few days and will provide an update on major recent repairs subsequent to the initial eBay listing. Additionally, within the previous 100 miles the car was inspected by an independent mechanic who found a few minor issues that were immediately addressed. His overall assessment of the Mustang revealed that it had excellent "Bones" and was a very well maintained, solid example that showed an unusually high "pride of ownership." This particular convertible Mustang runs and drives very well, indeed. The manual transmission makes the car much more fun to drive and adds a sporty touch to the convertible. The transmission shifts easily and the syncromesh gears are functional. There are no unusual noises in the transmission, rear end, or drive-line. The recent service to the brakes and suspension result in a car that not only steers and stops well but also exhibits no drivability issues. The tires are high quality matching Michelin's (4) and show no uneven wear. The Mustang's engine compartment is very original. All of the factory equipment appears to be in place including the original smog pump (disconnected). As a pre-1975 vehicle the car is not subject to smog inspections in California and is exempt in most states in the U.S. Please check your local smog requirements. This Mustang will clearly be of interest to collectors / enthusiasts that are looking for a rare, Mustang convertible that has had the benefit of just one owner. The car is completely and totally reliable, probably in large part due to the care that it has received from its careful owners. With continued care it is certain to provide the new owners with the same kind of reliability and pleasure for many, many more miles. MISCELLANEOUS * The Mustang has the original lug wrench, spare tire / wheel and comes with a jack * We are often times asked if we would drive a car a long distance. Personally, we would not hesitate to drive this particular car across country (and enjoy every minute of the trip on Route 66!) Please note the requirements listed below for out of state buyers / drivers. * The original owner's is included along with a file of receipts, records and history referenced in the narrative. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / COMMENTS We encourage telephone calls to discuss in greater details the condition / specifics of this highly unique Mustang convertible. It is difficult to fully describe but hopefully, the photos (along with the description) provide the prospective buyer with an idea of its condition. However, we ask that you call us for a "walk around" telephone discussion to review the condition of the car in greater detail and answer any questions that you may have. We can be reached at 925-846-1451 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 925-846-1451 end_of_the_skype_highlighting during normal business hours in California. Out of state buyers are responsible for only the sale amount of the vehicle and any transport costs (tax, license & other fees may be charged by your local State authorities). NOTE: According to California law any vehicle driven on California roads is to be taxed and registered by the new owner. If a prospective out of state buyer is planning on purchasing a vehicle and NOT having it shipped, PLEASE talk with us before you bid. Thank You! We enjoy excellent relationships with a number of transport companies and, as a result, can often times obtain preferred pricing for vehicle shipping. Please give us a call and we will be glad to refer you to suitable transport companies. This Mustang will make an excellent, affordable weekend "cruiser" or even a regular use vehicle. As nice as the car is, it is a used vehicle and, as such, normal, minor imperfections can be found on this (and virtually any used vehicles). Imperfections may include, but are not limited to, minor paint flaws, minor wheel scrapes, and other defects that may not detract from the overall appearance of the vehicle, but do exist on virtually any car that is driven on the street. We have; however, done our best to describe the car as accurately, and completely as possible and ask that you discuss the car with us should you have any questions or doubts about purchasing a vehicle on a long distance basis. PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background of any collector car being sold over the Internet. We believe that it is important to ask yourself a number of questions including, but not limited to: - How long have they been in business? - How much experience do they have with collector cars? - How many positive collector car vehicle sales have completed (positive EBay feedback)? - How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle? - Do the photos show details of the interior, exterior, top, chrome, etc. or are they simply "Glamour Shots" taken from a distance? - Does the seller have a surety bond to protect the financial transaction? - What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license? - Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances? - Do they enjoy a favorable local and national/international reputation? - Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales?
