Here's a two owner 1971 Mercury Monterey sedan. It was purchased in Belmond, Iowa in October of 1970 by the original owner. It was driven on a regular basis until 1993 when it was stored until I found it. The exterior is very good, at least a 8 of 10. The black vinyl top is near perfect, no cuts or tears. There's a small ding in the front chrome molding. There's some light surface rust in the front of the rear tires, not serious. The carpet looks good for it's age. There are a couple of holes in the headliner from some previous furry critters. All lights work, except the right turn signal indicator on the dash (this includes the trunk courtesy light - very nice!) Since purchasing it I've completed or had a profession complete the necessary details to make it road worthy. A brief summary of those items are new gas tank, fuel pump, rebuild the two barrel carb, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pertronix, belts, radiator rod & flush, master cylinder, brakes, wheel bearing, shocks, dual exhaust, etc. The pre-70's emmissions, flat top piston 400 V-8 starts and runs ok/good. Mechanics have completed a compression check and state the valves have gunk on them from setting so long and created a couple of slight misses. It idles nice and slow and has a enough power to spin the rear wheels. Thus, isn't too bad. Drivetrain plans were to have the head redone and install four barrel, but I've run out of time and storage. What doesn't work or needs attention: the A/C doesn't work, but is complete, driver's rear door doesn't open from the inside, replace dome light lense. Not much left to do to make this a very nice original Mercury.
