THIS IS 'THE' ONE SCOUT YOU WANT TO BUY!!! For sale is this fully serviced, custom, stylish and sporty, 1980 International Scout Traveler with a powerful 8-Cylinder 392 Short Block engine with stock 345 heads and Automatic Transmission. This Custom Blue Metallic with White Stripes and blue interior, is fully restored with some custom features. OVERVIEW:If you are in the market for a rare REALLY nice Scout but don't want to go through all the headaches of dealing with rust, or the mechanical or electrical problems, or getting it simply ready for the road, here is the solutions. A Scout you can't pass on it - and what you were looking for. The pervious owners custom restored this Scout. Here is a summary of what has been done to the Scout. Engine and Drivetrain:This Scout was only driven for about 27k miles since it was fully restored. The engine is a 392 short block 8-Cyl. engine and was pulled and totally rebuilt. The rebuilt included using the stock 345 heads and used them on the short block. The combination of the 345 heads and the bored 392 gave a boost in compression to about 9.5. After replacing the engine the transmission lost reverse and needed to be rebuilt as well. They pulled the torqueflite out and had it overhauled with heavy-duty clutches and discs at a transmission shop. To improve the gas mileage (consumption) they replaced the stock carburator with a Holley Pro-Jection Throttle Body fuel injection unit. The controls (computer) is mounted into the glovebox and does use an O2 sensor. A Pertronix unit, replacing the points, and an MSD6 ignition was added. We are uncertain how much it helped to improve the mileage but if the driver keeps the speed below 60 mph it will bring you about 15 mpg or more. The throttle response and towing ability with this Scout is outstanding. Transfer Case, Diff's, Tires & Brakes:The transfer case works great,as to the original IH locking hubs. The transfer case on a 80 model is a Dana 20 and NOT a 300. Not all "80's" model came with a 300. This is not a a short coming or bad thing but we want to make sure you are aware of it since the 300 is sought after case in the "80 Scout". The differentials are open Dana 44's front and rear. They are in excellent condition and work great - no noise. Front brakes are the stock, power assisted IHC disk brakes and the back brakes have been converted to disk brakes as well, with a kit from Back Country Binders. The tires are a moderately aggressive 31x10.50R15 with about 1/3 tread remaining. These tires are reasonably quiet on the highway but still give good grip when needed. The springs were replaced with Rancho's with about 2" lift. Enough so it's obviously lifted but not enough to compromize stability when driving on highways or make it hard to get in and out it. Exterior:This Scout was completely restored and customized. All of the rusty sheet metal was replaced with panels either new or from good parts from a donor vehicle. The cab mounts were replaced as well and a custom Blue-metallic paint job with White stripe paint was laid down on the vehicle. The stock rear bumper was restored and re-chromed. A Smittybilt front bumper was added along with the custom wheels. In addition, an SSII styled front grill from Howerton P was added. Fiberglass fender flares were also installed before the custom paint job was done. New door seals were purchased as well as all of the hardtop seals and installed. The stripes were applied with gray pinstripes and new Scout Traveler decals were installed. There is a small scratch on the rear right corner. Interior:The interior was completely redone from beginning to end. All new seat covers and upholstery, the front and rear seats, headliners, door panels, and side panels in the back and the rear door. These were done by an upholstery shop specialized for classics and muscle cars in two-tone fabrics. The interior-shop also made a custom spare tire cover matching the new interior. The interior is in excellent condition and it was never smoked in. The driver door inside door-handle is not connected but it can be done quickly and easly. Power windows for the doors were installed. With the interior rebuilt the instrument panel was replaced with a Dakota Digital Display Control unit manufactured by company called Rostra. The digital display shows Speed, Rotation, Pressure, Water temp, Fuel level, and Volts. It also has the mileage with resettable trip meter. The display also has turn-signal indicators. The engine instruments will flash indicate if there is an abnormally High or Low readings to warn the driver of a malfunction. A real paded 4 point roll bar (not a show bar) was added with 3 point harness lab belts and shoulder reels for the front passengers. Stock lab belts are in place for the rear bench/seat. The air conditioning compressor (the old style tecumseh) was replaced with a Sanden/Sankyo. These are typically much more efficient, quieter, and eliminate the belt slap with the old piston style compressor. This Scout has a JVC receiver head unit with a 10-disc CD-Changer mounted under the Howerton console and has a remote control along with powered subwoofer and 6 speakers. Since the rebuilt about 28280 miles were added by driving this Scout. The rebuilt/restoration of this Scout cost the previous owner over $18,000. A new emergency brake, a battery trickle charger, and some maintenance work were done. As ususal with Scouts, the entire roof can be taken off. It really looks sharp without the roof and screams for a ride to the beach!!! The present Tailgate is from a Scout II and was added so when the top is removed you have a tailgate on the truck. With the original Traveler hatchback it did not have a tailgate when the roof came off. We still have the original hatchback door and will be included, if you want it. For full disclosure, anyone that buys a car like this should understand that these are not new cars and they are used and not "perfect". Having said that, if I had to grade it this one is a 8.0 out of a 10. But the reality is that with any classic car like this some seals might be moist or could seep. There is some seeping on the steering box and oil pan but no real leaks. We just want to make sure you understand what you buy and point out all we know.
