Vehicle Detail

This is an estate sale of a 53 Stude street rod project that was begun apparently in the 1970s, and never completed. The car was bought by my friend John Brown, former long time member of the SDC and past president of the North Georgia Chapter SDC, in its present condition in the mid 1980s and it has been garaged ever since awaiting completion, which never came. A Chevy engine, a 63 or 64 327CID from the engine number, with a TH350 has been installed, along with a 9" Ford Torino rear end. Wheels are from a 76 Dodge, which fit the Stude and Ford bolt circle. Front brakes are later model Studebaker 11"X2", and the rears are Ford. John's notes say that the wiring harness came from a 75 Chevy, and the front seats are from a 72 Monte Carlo. The rear seats are original, and as you can see from the picture the aftermarket seat cover is in shreds; I do not know what the original fabric under the cover looks like. In preparation for the sale we have installed new plugs, points, condenser and new wheel cylinders all around. The gas tank has been professionally boiled out, repaired where necessary and epoxy coated. The engine runs strong and the transmission shifts into second, but we couldn't take it out of the driveway for road testing since at the time we hadn't had the gas tank repaired and it was running on a can of gas wired under the hood. The carb needs work- the needle valve sticks open periodically. The radiator has a small leak, and probably should be recored. There is evidence of rust repair in the floor in the front seat, as shown in the pictures. There are probably rust repairs in the front fenders in the normal places, but there is no apparent bubbling or rust through, as shown in the pics. The pot metal trim is universally pitted, but the pits are generally small, and each piece appears to be a good candidate for plating. The right grill surround is off the car- put loosely on the car for the pics, but I didn't want to install it and risk cracking it, since the new owner will be removing it anyway. The paint appears to be lacquer, and is scratched in many small areas- it looks OK from 20 feet, but will require repainting. Georgia is a non-title state for cars over 25 years of age, so a bill of sale will be executed and the buyer can have a copy of the paperwork passing the car to John's widow, and the previous bill of sale.On Nov-20-10 at 08:50:33 PST, seller added the following information: I have taken some pictures showing the trunk and the frame, but they won't fit here on eBay- you can see them at http://is.gd/hu6Ng
